I have a 5100 receiver with a 40 gig hard drive and my question is would it be easier just to buy a new 80 or 120 gig hard drive for this receiver and put a virgin eeprom and tsop file on it. That way a don't have to worry about zeroing out the hard drive. Not sure what connection I need to hook hard drive up to computer never did this before so if its alot easier to buy a new one I would do that thanks

Zeroing for what, to remarry?? Not nesessary. Just load a virgin tsop and eeprom file and it will marry.
I used to rezero, now I never do.....

I tryed that and didn't seem to work unless I'm doing something wrong or the eeprom and tsop wasn't a virgin one, it said it was. I understand that it has to be dishnet and not bell. Do I have to use a p063 tsop. I guess all just have to keep trying

Skinerd,
What does the unit do during the marrying process? are the green light and red light on? does it flash off and on? How long does it take in your experiecne?
Thanks

now all I get is the greenand red light staying on and can't seem to get rid of this. I've tried to put back the original tsop but still no luck. I think I'm just going to get myself a new hard drive. That way I don't have to zero out the hard drive. I've tried so many virgin eeproms and tsops but none seem to work. I have the soft ware to zero out the hard drive but I don't know what connection I need to hook the hard drive to the PC . I see a lot of places that tell you what software to use but not what hardware that you need. Maybe this is a stupid question and if it is sorry for that.

the reason i found, it is doing that is because you erased u6 and u7. when you erase one, it does both at the same time, so if you erase u7, then program it, then erase u6, it also erases u7 again and that makes both lights come on. just program u7 with virgin software change numbers to match and it will be ok.

Will a 120 gig hd work in the 501?
Does it matter the brand of HD used?
Thanks.

thank I got the lights to go off again. If only I can get the hard drive to work. I'm looking at getting a new hard drive. That way hopefully I can just put an updated bell tsop on my receiver and the hard drive will marry to it with no problems

Not sure if it will work, I know larger ones will work and there are threads here on how to do it...I believe you need to use differnt virgin software that supports the size you want. All you need to do is load the virgin software, PO63 for example, edit the R00 # and boxkeys to match and your in business

I tried that , I put a virgin eeprom and the 063 tsop on my receiver and still get the error messsage problem with hard drive. I've been working on this for a month now and no luck. Ive tried different 063 tsops and eeproms , I don't know which ones to try anymore.I'm allways told I have to zero out the hard drive. If I don't have to that would be great because I don't know how thats done or what I would need thanks

Maybe, there is something wrong with your HD. That happened to me; but it didnt work at all. I just read you can go up to 120G, but use PO79 to program, and you will need to create a virgin eeprom also. You need to do that with PO63 also, it wont work if you dont.
I didnt it and didnt have to zero out the HD, you dont have to do that as long as you use virgin software and eeprom, sounds like either a loose connection or bad HD.

I didn't create my own virgin eeprom. I just used the ones in the tsop bank. Is it better to create my own using flashedit .

I just followed directions, and created my own and it worked..might as well give it a try. Just open the U7 bin that you saved, go to script drop down menu, and select save as virgin eeprom and save it...it creates the file and your good to go. Hope it helps.
