View Full Version : Dish 311 programming
This is the first time I try to program a 311, and so far I cant even get past the first step. I plugged in my iso programmer into the jtag and card to the reciever and when I go to n2edit, when i hit the reset card, I keep getting an atr: error. I have the reciever unplugged and the iso has a 9volt batt plugged in. I am using my laptop, and i just cant get past this. Any suggestions.....
Thanks.....

Why do you have your ISO plugged into the JTAG? Should it not be used on the ISO interface?
Bandit5906,
I meant ISO interface....and wrote JTAG.....I have the ISO plugged into the ISO interface, the reciever is off, the battery is 9v both the red power light and the yellow busy light are on....and n2edit keeps giving me ATR error....I know the reciever has to be off....the ISO is set to 3.68. Man....i cant figure this out....is it something I'm doing....

Your ISO runs with a 9v battery?
Does both ISO lights come on as soon as you plug the ISO into com port or even with out it?
There seems to be a problem with vcc check all the connections.

It's always good to try a card in the iso also to make sure it's working, then if it is, you need to make sure you plugged the header at the end of the ribbon in the right way on the pins. The right way would be with the receiver in front of you plug the header on the ribbon cable from the right side of the receiver like the how to milli has posted and make sure the header goes down on the pins all the way good.

I recently purchased a few 311 already modded with the ISO interface and an open cam. The problem is one of them I cannot read. Can I just try to open the CAM with my modded T-911 loader just like I open 102s or do I need to use something else?

Yeah, both lights the red and yellow turn on when I plug the 9volt battery to it. The ISO programmer has either a 9volt or PS2 power type option(plug in a PS2 power adapter). I have not tried the PS2 option yet, just the 9volt battery, but both lights turn on as soon as I plug in the battery. If I disconnect the battery the lights turn off, even when plugged into the ISO interface, which is probably normal.

What kind of other card should I try, a regular nagra card, I have an old one, how can I test the programmer to see if it works, I just recieved it yesterday. I will double check to make sure that the header is plugged in correctly, i'm pretty sure it was. I know the the header does not go down all the way onto the pins. Its a very small gap, but I'm pretty sure its making contact. I will double check again though....

Yes, use the old nagra card and do the card reset ATR and see if you get an ATR.

I keep getting the ATR error, with the old nag card that I have from an old reciever, what do you think it is. Maybe something with the ISO programmer? I am using N2edit 9. When I look at the comm tab in N2edit 9, I get RX: Timeout. Is it the comm between the pc and the programmer?
Opening of COM1 was successful
Reset failed
Error reseting card, ATR string invalid
Closing of COM1 was successful
for the old nagra card i get:
Opening of COM1 was successful
ATR String: 3F FF 95 00 FF 91 81 71 64 47 00 44 4E 41 53 50
30 30 33 20 52 65 76 33 38 33 F5
ROM Revision: 003
EEPROM Revision: Rev383
Closing of COM1 was successful
It seems that with my old nagra card, I can reset and read the card, but when I connect the ISO interface cable to the ISO programmer and try to read or reset it with NagraEdit 4.1, I keep getting reset failed, or error...
Opening of COM1 was successful
Reset failed
Error reseting card, ATR string invalid
Closing of COM1 was successful
under the comms tab
RX: [no response]
This is with the old nagra card:

I also checked the continuity between the soddered points and the ISO interface card and it was good. I'm wondering if it could be that somehow there is still a false contact between the interface points and the ISO programmer, or the software fails to work, but why would it read and reset the old nagra card then when I plug that in, and not the ISO interface card?
Seems strange?! I did notice that there was no continuity between R274 and R289, and in the diagrams, it looks like there should be, does anyone know if this could be the reason?

Have you tried to read the 311 with Nagra2edit v7 or v9? Nagra 4.1 is for the old nagra 1 cards and won't work with the 311's which have rom 102's in them. I guess you say you are using n2edit, so I would say make sure those wires that are soldered to the header connector on the board are solder good to the header and then to the points on the board where they are susposed to be. It sounds like you are not getting a good connection somewhere there.

I downloaded Nagra2edit v7 and v9. They both work with the old nagra card but not with the ISO interface card.
Old nagra card with v9:
ATR: 3F FF 95 00 FF 91 81 71 64 47 00 44 4E 41 53 50 30 30 33 20 52 65 76 33 38 33 F5
CAM Type: ROM3 Rev383
Setting IFS
Provider: Unknown
with ISO interface and NagraEdit v9:
ATR error
I sent mili a msg because I purchased it at his store. I don't want to mess with the points on the reciever because I don't want him to refuse an exchange if I try and figure out if it's the 311 reciever! I don't know what else to do....any more suggestions.....:( I am pretty sure it's the reciever now.....because the programmer works with the old nagra card, unless its the ISO interface card, ISO interface cable, or 311 reciever!
There is continuity between the ISO interface header pins and the ISO interface card, I have checked this, so it should not be the header pins or ISO interface cable.
Only other thing is, if the ISO interface card is not making good contact with the ISO programmer or, the wires going to the ISO interface header on the reciever are not soldered to the correct points on the board. Hmmm....not sure what to do....I hope mili reads this.....
Do you have the power OFF in the receiver when you are trying to read/reset the built in card through the interface? Did you make sure you plugged the interface card's connector the rigth way around onto all the pins glued onto the board?

Mili,
Power is off on receiver when I do a read/reset with the built in interface. I plugged the interface card connector exactly how it is in the how to. I have tried this over and over again with no new result, always the same ATR error. I have not been able to connect even once. This is what is strange! Only with the old nagra card.
Well I just got my new 311 receiver, does anyone know where to get the n2edit v9. I have this version but i am not sure it is working correctly. Can I read or reset the 311 with the blue nexus glitcher??? or does it have to be the iso programmer??
I just tried the 311 receiver with the n2edit 9 that I have and I got the dreaded atr error again. Are there any settings that I have to change on my laptop? Do i have to use a null 9pin serial cable or something, I just don't understand!!!
Depressed.....
