can buy a unit, still stock, exsub, but the guy says that once a week the ird messes up and to fix it he needs to hold the power down for 10 seconds and then wait about 5 minutes for it to "think". then its ok again. he says thats how b3ll told him to fix it, and that the 5800 are notorious for this. nayone know if this is true and if it's something that can be fixed?

So the unit has to be reset about once a week. Sounds like the receiver is a bit fucked up. When/If you get it make sure the firmware is up to date and try putting a virgin eeprom on there. Some thign may be corrupt in there and that could cause a problem like that. You could also try other firmware from simillar build configs and see if that helps. it could be a hardware issue. If you are going to sub it the receiver may be under warrenty. In which case ask them to send you a replacement that works. Because it impossible to rely on it to record something for you if it needs to be rebooted.
I had 2 PVR-721's that I got on ebay that Dish said were still under warrenty, dish had no problem sending me new replacment units. They did that because they were too stupid to know they needed rom 103 cards and that they don't work with rom 102's. I even flat out told them that at one point, it's really sad that their tech support has no clue. Anyways, yeah if you sub it try to get them to send you a new one. If you are just going to hack it try messing around with new firmware and virgin eeproms.
