Just thought I'd throw this out there to see if it would catch any intelligent response.
What is the way to go??
I know the typical answer is, well, just got to wait and see.
But surely the collective brain can also try to anticipate Chuck's next move?
The way I see it (and tell me if I'm wrong, which I no doubt am):
a) Rom 102 is the most stable way to go, cuz the hack technology therein is the most advanced. Plastic always leads the way. Right?
b) FTA is industrious, always calculating, but could have problems depending on certain Charlie manouevers
c) The Atmega, beloved by some (including myself), is a sad sack of a hack, yet has hung in there, surprising many prognosticators. But the next big jump it will face is speed-rolling or something like that which will freak out its small brain and finally cause it to shut down.
d) Rom 103: Dunno, see Rom 102 I guess.
e) AVR-X, maligned in some circles, a problem child, yet does autoroll and with constant attention can surprise.
g) Syndrome, in jail or out on probation (just kidding), may be ready to stage a comeback, though not from a Canadian base it would appear

Embedded morphing emm64 = bye bye all public plastic (and anything not fully emulating a sub'd card) using receivers
Embedded morphing keychange = bye bye all FTA
How's that for doom and gloom :D
Instant blackout if you touch your TSOP, speeding up stream and using larger key encryption.

damn, forgot to mention...
h) all the folks who are running the various puter-based hacks: cemu, emu, emo, cuseeme, etc :)

Not too scary, a reverse cipher kanuder valve should handle the embedded morphing emm64. Furthermore, if the FTAs incorporate a dual flow, liquid cooled turbotuck processor, it should handle the embedded morphing keychange. TV forever, just like it should be.

well it looks like chuck like to do firmware updates as they can knock out many idffernt hacks. TSOP modding gets over written durring a firmware update. The ARV-X need s new version with nearly every firmware update. Using a valid DT08 gets around the firmware updates though. Black listing could be an option to keep people from using gendt08 to make their own. But I doubt chuck will do that. He has a few tricks for FTA receiver such as fake key changes, but they don't keep peoplw down long. Bumping of the encryption will knock out a good number of FTA receivers, but they will overcome that too. Personaly I don't think he will do much of anything that will bring down anything major. Seems to be a little here a little there, but in the end he's fucked.

waiting totally helpless for the next big ECM, I suppose

a reverse cipher kanuder valve
HeeeeeeHaw..........:D
A fine testing tool, indeed. Morphing EMM's beware! Available TODAY, 19.95. But wait - if you order now, we'll ship you a SECOND kanuder valve absolutely free! Isn't that amazing!
Please add 5.95 for S & H.
Operators are standing by.

I find it surprising that we're not being ECM'd right now, not really, not like in the past.
A partial answer may be that it's not cost effective for charlie to ECM. The card swap did knock out many free TVers. How many people are testing today compared to a year and half ago?
On subject:
I think some Uber Geek will create a stand alone part that one can make out of old off the shelf PC components that fully emulates the Echostar system (card and IRD) thereby eliminating hardware ECM's.
As is things are going now, I expect the next big ECM will be updated propaganda on the Pirate TV Channel.
