I've given up on my AVR-X and broken down and bought an open 102 and an ISO. I'm all set to start programming my 102... but I don't have a clue where to start.
Do I need to buy this blocker? Or is there another method that works just as well?
Does this blocker work with the 501?
Many thanks for any advice.

DB, You and I have been fighting our PVRs with the avr-x for a while now and I can tell you that the rom102 is the sweet sweet answer. Mine is back to 100% perfect.
The private romcode stuff is nice for these reasons.
1. super easy tier selection. It's all check boxes in the romcode software. Check this box for porn, this one for time zones, click here for locals, check here to remap your locals to the correct channels, check there to use the romcode private bin.
2. It cleans the card, installs the 3m, installs the blocker, and checks the lock status all from the same easy to use application.
3. It works. No muss no fuss... just friggin works and works well.
The fact is that the public 102 blockers and 3ms that are out there work too. They take a little more effort to get all your settings just right, but they work just the same as the romcode does. It depends on what you want to do. If you want to watch tv and that's all, then the romcode is the easiest way I have seen to get a 102 up and running. If you want to tinker a bit before you watch tv, then the public stuff might be better.
Let us know which way you go and good luck.

MMmmmmm lafs... I think I've had enough fun for now. Time to just watch some TV. I think I'll go Romcode.
So is there any major hassle with the PVR's? I heard something about remarrying the hard drive, re-writing the flash's, etc.
--DB
well..... any time you change your bk or ird# on the PVR you have to go through the remarry process. If you don't have a married yellow card with one of you pvrs, then you will have to deal with it. I am using the private bin that came with the romcode software. Here is what I did to get it up and running.
1. Installed romcode onto 102 and wrote down the bk and ird# info from the software.
2. Got my old trusty p075 bin and flash edited it to put the romcode numbers onto it.
3. Flashed the ird with p075 and let it update from the stream. This married the hd to the correct numbers.
4. Then I took my latest working unmodified tsop image which had the current rev, and it flash edited it to put the romcode numbers onto it.
5. I flashed the ird with this image.
6. Check switch.
7. Watch tv.
It has not froze once, and I have recorded MANY shows with no issues. I remember now how much I liked the PVR. It's been a while, but the thing is stable as heck now.
I just ordered one of Mili's ex-sub 510s with married rom102 and added another card to my romcode sub. The procedure will change a bit for that, but at least I won't have to worry about the tsop. Just the card.
Good luck and post your results.

Doesn't sound impossible...
So I take it our friends down at Romcode provide some detailed instructions which would cover us PVR users?
--DB
not really. They have instructions, but don't go into PVR issues.
There is an issue I didn't mention before that you should know about. On the pvrs and 301.013s that came with yellow cards may need to have a flash edit script called skremover run on the tsops. Mine did. I forgot to mention that. :(
Here is a c&p from another site.

Want to run 301-013 or 501/508/510 with RomCode make sure you read this!
If the receiver is one that originally came with a yellow card then you might need to disable the SK. Check readme file enclosed.
Note: look at your flash with Hex Workshop first to determine if it needs this patch.
For 301-013:
If the IRD# shows up at offset 1FFF40, then you need the SK Removal patch. If the IRD# is at 1FFFC0, the you DONT need the SK Removal patch.
For 501/508/510:
If the IRD# shows up at offset 3FFF40, then you need the SK Removal patch. If the IRD# is at 3FFFC0, then you DONT need the SK Removal patch.
I will upload the file named SK_Removal.zip to the files section in a few minutes. For some reason, this "mod" does not get overwritten with stream updates.
UPDATE: I uploaded the file. It said it was placed in a moderation queue. It should be available after it is reviewed by a mod.

Sorry for the ignorant question but... you can use 301.13 and other pro line receivers? On the how two pages it says
"The legacy receivers and the 301.010 uses DT08 and the DishPro models use a secondary key to establish the session key."
So what are the steps to use 301.13 and other DishPro Models?
Thanks
steps to use 301.13 and other DishPro Models
1 Grease an 8 inch baking pan with margarine or bakers spray.
2 In a medium bowl combine flour, cocoa and salt. Mix well.
3 In a large bowl, whisk together egg whites, vanilla, egg, sugar, applesauce, oil and vanilla.
4 Add flour mixture to the egg mixture and stir until just combined. Do not over mix.
5 Pour batter into baking pan and sprinkle with nuts.
6 Bake until set about 25 minutes. Remove from oven, cool on a wire rack for at least 15 minutes and then cut into squares.
oh wait! wrong instructions....
sirdanny, look two posts above your question. - I'll make it red so you can find it. ;)
