You came to the right spot. We can help you get it up and running and you will be surprised how easy it is.

First things first, tell us what IRD you have that you plan on using the romcode with.

Here are some required first steps.

1. When you get your rom102, the first thing you want to do it put it in the ISO, and use N2EDIT to make a copy of the original card image. I would save it in a couple of places.

2. You need to back up the TSOP on your IRD. This exact proceedure will vary depending on what model you have.

Post back, we will go on from there.

Ok dude. Getting jtag access to this box is critical to your success. When you say failed soldered avrx ribbon, do you think you will be able to get the jtag to work? This sould be your first priority for now. You need to be able to read and write to this tsop.

I said you have a new jtag. Try to get that to work.
Here is mili's how to on jtagging.

If you can't get it to jtag because of the failed avrx header install, then send pictures of the mess and we will try to offer suggestions to fix.

report back your results

Sure. You happened to pic the hardest one to get working. The PVRs are the most difficult because of having to marry the hard drive whenever you change tsop info.

We will get you through it, but lets not skip around. First we get the PVR to get video, then we will deal with the hard drive.

i sldered on bottem, took whole thing apart twice(what a pain) i had a jtag that i left taped to bottem of 501 for months, and i heard they are bad about shorting/going bad, so i ordered new one...anyway when i plugged old jtag into 501 w/ribbon soldered, it gave error jinterface doesnt recognize in com1 or something mildly close to that. do you think jtag was bad or was it solder job...i didnt thing solder job would mater since i read about people having to flash all the time...what do you think? didnt mean to get off steps to romcode...

Jtag is a requirement for romcode so we aren’t getting off steps.
All that matters right now is getting that thing jtagged.

Have you successfully jtagged this box since the avrx header install?

If not, check carefully for solder bridges connecting points that shouldn't be connected.

If you can't get that thing to jtag, you need to try another box or send that one off to someone more experienced like skinerd. If you do have to send it off, don't feel bad. I have had to do the same thing. :)

Just so you know, once I got my pvr working with romcode, I have not had to touch it since, and it is perfect. Well worth the effort.

Do you have a serial JTAG? Some of the new ones are serial, but by and large they are parallel port devices. Try switching the program to use the parallel port.

in jkeys, go to file-preferences and select parallel interface and try again.

yeah i tried that rob...no luck...i am waiting for new jtag, just ordered last night...he said it was hands free, had clip to keep from shorting.?., and was gold plated pins...he sd it would for sure work w/ mine and any other bottem jtag ird.
