Anyone out there receiving dishnetwork way up North in Canada?

I'm 600 miles north of USA border (near 54th parallel) in Quebec.

If so what kind of antenna are you using ????

Lyngsat and SatcoDX website shows i'm in the ground
coverage of Echostar 7 (119)... but i have my doubts
about the size and type of antenna one needs way up north.....

Ideas and comments are welcome !!!!

A minimum of 36" will minimize rain fade, 24" will work for some birds, but with rain fade. But check the news, the future of testing looks pretty bleak right now. Invest at your own risk.

Thx Pikachule1

I'm aiming at dishnetwork 119 echostar 7 satellite with a DISH1000 ANTENNA, which i bought from DSSFTP

Can't seem to find any signal at all....

But i've got a 36 " Round Expressvu antenna... you think i should try to hook up a dishnetwork LNB to that ???

i'm in b.c. around the 53th paralel , the dish for 119 is about 39" and the one for 110 is either 32 or 34 inches ( can't remember off hand right now )

i'm good untill it rains or snows heavy .

i've been tossing around the idea of a 48 " for 119 and moving the 39" dish over to 110 to try to reduce "rainfade " .

what i've also noticed with the larger dish is that wind will tend to move it around a bit , messing with the signal , so i've been thinking about building some sort of brace that attaches to the outside of the dish , then to a second mounting point to keep it from moving around so much .

119 is the hardest to get, a 36" might barely get it. A 48" is definitely recommended. The others are relatively easier.

I installed a SuperDish today which is similar to yours and at the recommended elevation of 25' I was unable to lock on anything, but I went to the on-air specs for a DishPro setup and locked everything in with the elevation set to 30'.

Check that set-up with your menu from dish and see what the elevation is that they call for with another dish.

Yes, I did use a level for the mast so I know it is not that issue. I just think they were wrong on the new dish settings. The rest of the setting work fine, BTW.

Why not ask Burnt Servo what elevation he is using?

I am living in the Caribbean close to Venezuela, Ok its south but it think is more than 600 miles from the USA, and i am using a Channel master 1.8M (6 feet) aimed at the 119 and a 2.4M (8 feet) aimed at the 110, works fine. And the Lyngsat and SatcoDX website's shows that i'm not in the ground
coverage of 119 or 110.

i'd love too , but i'm not sure they'd be of any use , maybe as a very rough guidline . both masts for 110 and 119 dishes aren't plumb or level . 110 is really off kilter .
mind you i will be fiddling with that stuff tomorrow , so i'll maybe take the ladder out and take a peek at the elevation numbers on the mast .

I am in Nova Scotia at Lat 44.4 using and old 39 inch SC dish. My signal averages about 95% on the 119 and 80-85% on the 110 Brid. I am a little further south than you but because you are further west , with my rough caculations you are closer to the 119 than me. There are a lot of used SC 39" X"43 dishes around and one of those should do the job for you. Make sure you have a sturdy pole with good triangular braceing from the dish back to the pole once you get it aimed. With a little work you can mount your circular LNB to the dish.

Hey noride2hvy

Nice caribou by the way.... Tell me, about
your 6 feet antenna, did you convert an old C antenna to Ku ?

Or did you actually buy it ?

In any case, please let me know !!

Thanks

I live in Alberta on the 52nd parallel.

39" on 119 gets me anywhere from 65% to 100% depending on transponder.
30" on 110 gets me 70% to 92% depending on transponder.
30" on 129 gets me 60 to 95% depending on transponder.
20" on 82/91 gets me 80-100%, but that's my Bev sub so it damn well better work!!!!

I had a 30" on 119, but would see the signal drop below usable when I had rain or snow on about 1/2 of the transponders. I haven't had a problem since going to a 39" though.

I bought it for Dish I never lose signal with it my buddys lose it some times when it snows with the smaller dish. When I bought this they said I had to have it to get reception. I really think you can get by with two 3 meter dishes.

I bought the 6' but I know of somebody that is using the 39" and they do fine with it. Also for some reason I tried to switch my 6' to 110 but my 39" worked better wich don't make any sense because 110 is harder to find for me.

You can get Charlie service in Alaska with a standard 110/119 dish. Now, I doubt that applies to eastern Canada, but for sure it applies to most of western Canada. Spot beam maps have changed so much lately I can't tell you for sure exact locations and dish size beyond what I stated above.

they must be spot beaming the signal into alaska , since i'm half way between washington state and alaska and i need at least a 33 inch , prefeably a 39 inch dish to pick up 119 .

That is correct, cause they don't want our Canadian friends easily swiping their signal.
