View Full Version : Dish is implementing the BEV ECM right now
It was inevitable like I warned you...Dish has followed Bell and started hashing (SHA-1) certain ethnic channels on 61.5 with a new CMD07. 119/110 channels seem to be okay for now. This is only very preliminary, but the death of FTA, Atmega, ROM10-11 AVR-X and Syndrome, the end of an era seems to be upon us.
For those who are still in denial about FTA never going down, well, the FTA coders have had 3 weeks to fix Bev and have done jack. Those in denial countered that the majority of people watch Dish on FTA and the coders would only update the firmware when Dish went down. Well here is their big chance, but don't expect any miracles folks.

Im using the FTA method..
Today, suddenly one of my main ethnic channels died out.. the rest work.
ZeeTV stopped today, but similar indian channels such as SetMax are working fine...
wonder if this has something to do with it...! arrg..
I guess ROM 101's can process 768? Im sure they still have them out there for dish, but i dont think you can have international channels without a rom 102. So thats why they changing them

my guess is that the other channel is on a diffrent transponder. Seems like if they have increased the speed to 768, they have only done it on some of the transponders on 61.5

on that note.. and also now that i'm confused about the whole FTA vs AVR-X vs ROM10X etc stuff...
what kinda equipment is recommened? What will still work?
FTA seems doomed..
but avr-x and rom's? all good on those?
(I'm planning a purchase..but now holding onto it till all settles down! lol..)

The ST19 smart card emulator looks promising. May could write a 102 image to that chip.
You need a real ROM 102 based setup. I put together a few packs as you can see on the top and here:

That is a matter of opinion. But yes, it would be best to have a real 102 card. I may buy one from you myself. :)
Those packages are pretty steep don't you think Do you give a 10% senior citizen discount?

Hey Mili,
What about those DVB cards?? I guess since everything is emulated on software, there would not be "space" problem, would it? and about the processor speed, you think your good ol' P4 2.0 GB would take the load???

...........CPU speed, you'll need lot's of RAM, have to take that slow Hard Drive out of the Equation!!
PS I don't own any of these products but if they're not DOS or Linux based,
WinDOZE will be a major stumbling block.

Good question I am running mt with a 102g p4 3.0 ht. I could see the fta boxes being limited but with a dvb card should be able to have more horsepower from the pc to decrypt?

Same question as above. My guess would be that DVB (and EMU) will still be useable, at least for a while. This is assuming two things:
1- The D*** and/or B** cards at current and future revs can be dumped.
2- There are coders willing to work on the problem.
Just my .02 worth.

The above link refers to the 768 bit encryption. But I was under the impression that some (all?) of the legacy receivers were not powerful enough to handle it...are they?
sugar_ray
06-02-2006, 07:58 PM
sure Legacy recievers can handle the new 768 encryption. Thousands of subscribers still have and are using legacy (older) equipment. It would cost charlie waaaaaaaaaaaay to much to replace, at no charge, every subscriber that had legecy units. its looks like the ONLY time in future that it will become necessary to swap out old recievers for subscribers is when the new MPEG 4 signals have been FULLY-LAUNCHED
from what i gather, its NOT the receivers that will be the problem. Its the devices (Atmega, rom 10, FTA, etc....) that are BECOMING the problem. That's what milli has been getting at these past few weeks. Charlie has forced us into the handshake protocol, or some know it as "card married to receiver" The atmegas and rom 10's don't have enough space on them for the info needed so those two methods will NOT be able to keep up to good old 768. Alot of nay sayers regarding Atmega may say, "well that's what everyone said when Nagra 2 was launched and we still were able to use them!" different game this time around the track as when Nagra 2 was launched it was NOT launched with 768 in the air. we all knew 768 was a POSSIBILITY. its just now that we are seeing it. Its almost as if charlie had 768 as his BACK UP PLAN.
FTA is another story. they may have enough storage room and speed in em' to keep up to 768, however with FTA, the handshake protocol will need to be defeated. Some are suggesting an on board device in FTA "MAY" be able to get around this. However, that won'T happen overnight as we seen BEV FTA has been down for 2 + weeks.
The ONE device that "CURRENTLY" matches the requirments is the Rom 101 and 103 cards. They have enough memory space and speed to keep up. PLUS........they match our handshake scenerio perfectly as thats what the cards were originaly designed for. Dishnet/Bev Ird's. those cards that use to sell on Ebay for as little as $15 bucks a peice may become a HOT patatoe.
My guess would be, once everyone is forced to use the plastic card method (rom cards) charlie would then use the more traditional style ECM. LOOP the hell out of the playing field
its an on going battle, it realy is. Fun to watch at this point if your a true blue hobbiest.
even funnier to watch is all the free tver's logging on asking the same questins over and over and .............. "so whats working? what do we need to buy now? what are latest keys? latest keys aren't fixing the problem?"

Of course there is the Armulator which works as a true replica of a 101 or 102 card. I'm supprised more people aren't working with it yet.

Are you saying that AVRX won't have an update for the 500 series? Or if they do, it will not work for long? I tried to register the 510 I bought from you and Dish said it has unpaid bills I need to cover in order to register it. Well, day by day!

Anything other than a real yellow ROM10X card is just an EMULATOR. Let it be Armulator or anything else. Anything that uses firmaware modification will be the next ECM target. Unless a brand new device is developed we got the ROM102 cards for now.
Pleae don;t try to advertise stuff on my forums or you will be banned. This is the last warning.
