ok here it is, i have xm but want to have a standalone system in my house to avoid switching from car to house and so forth. ive read that it is possible to receive the xm through a directv receiver and an hu card. i have an old RCA nrd513nb receiver. i was wondering for starters can this be done without ripping apart my xm receiver? can this be done with an H card instead of HU? does the card have to be virgin? if not does it have to be clean from sub? can it previously have had dss files on it? can i use a MagicCard instead of the HU? i know this is a lot of questions but im sure they are easy to answer for many of you. thanks for the help

a great retired member named niknak had a post about what he called a blindman's 3m.
I think some more peopke added some info also.
I remeber because he had one of the closest things to a real activated sub called the "SAM' and it was the shit.
I was close to the last few steps to get it to be real when hu died.
anyway search for post made bt niknak or for blind man"s 3m
will need a hu card

thanks for the quick reply... i'll to try the blind mans 3M... idealy what i was going for tho was to align my dish with the XM satellite and use the directv ird to receive the signal to which im already subscribed... if anyone knows anything about this and could refer to the questions i posted earlier id appreciate it. thanks for the help otherwise fubr.

XM is on DTV like sirious is on d*sh... and since DTV audio is not encrypted, any old HU or even H card can be used with any of the old 3m's to 'hear' the XM channels that Dave carries... I dont think a DTV receiver can receive the actual XM signal tho. Its a nice use for some old DTV hardware people may have lying around
hey idjit buy a cheap power inverter bring in house i use a power supply 12 volt hey but that must be 2 hard it sounds way easier to screw around with cards receivers dishes etc.. things that make u go hmmmm

WOW! I had forgotten about niknak and the SAM card! Guess that's why you're a mod(est) mod here.
