I was looking to buy a 501 pvr with no card. Do they have a visable jtag port on the bottom if so can I use my quad jtag . Last question does this unit need a vidmod

Thanks

Yes they have a jtag port on the bottom
Yes you can use your quad j-tag
No you don't need to do a vid mod! Good luck

On the Vidmod, it DEPENDS!
If the 501 you get has DT chips at U6 and U7, then NO vidmod is required.
If a GT chip is at U7 then YES a vidmod is required.
I have several 501's and 1 has the GT chip at U7. I found out later that it was a remanufactured 501 but still had to have the vidmod.
If the 501 used a ROM10(blue card) before, then no vidmod is required.

mickeyd,
I found the U7 chip but the chip has no DT or GT ref on it. It's near the build config label; correct? DCED is the build config, AM79DL 3230T is printed on the chip.

your 3230T is more likely a 323GT, which will have to be vidmoded.
