So to use Romcode, you must have an ex/sub card if you don't want to modify the TSOP. If you have a receiver with an unlocked Virgin Rom 102 (so the receiver does not give the "card not valid for this receiver" error), will that be fine?

i dont think it will work with a virgin rom102...the ex sub cards have the activation codes on them.

But if you insert the virgin card into the ird and don't receive "card not valid for this receiver" error, wouldn't it just marry to the receiver? (I guess you'd have to connect the sat in to expose it to the stream?). Has anyone tried this with a virgin card?

Look,I see in some of your earlier post, you're having trouble,Jtaging your rec's.You probably are using bad bins. Its not hard to mod rec's. to work
with Romcode.All you have to do,is find a good clean Tsop,no mods,make
sure it is the same build conf.,as on the little sticker inside your rec.Open it
in flashedit, change the IRD #'s and boxkey's to the #'s that Romcode will
give you after you program your card.click on fix CRC's,save as personal
dump, then save as virgin eeprom.write to your rec.with Jkeys. If you have a problem after this,PM me with your build conf.,email address, and the #'s that
Romcode tells you to use,I'll fix it for you

Thanks guys - I really do appreciate your help (aposton, I'll pm you separately). Apologies for all the questions, but since I'm on my third fried ird, I'm looking into the non-modified ird route with Romcode. Romcode says that the card needs to get video. Anyone have success using a virgin card married to the receiver?

RockyM,Studmonkey is write, you cannot use a virgin card with a married rec.. A virgin card, can't be married to a rec.,you're gonna have to use Romcodes, public 3m,and mod the #'s on your rec.,I know you're concerned with the problems you've had,but this is the only way.Unless you have a rec.,and card that is allready married.Let me know if I can help.
