question about lock with 102

i just for the love of god finshed programming a 102, what a chore. i did it on an old 301-010 with an odd circuit lock. do want the lock on will it prevent the updates the setup should take?

Sure, if you got the lock, may as well use it. The lock only prevents firmware updates to the receiver. It won't protect the rom in any way.
