View Full Version : Rom 102 and 4500
I'm wondering if anyone has tried or has a Rom 102 working with a 4500 IRD.
Thanks

Thank you STP, and I'm sorry I got short with you, My computer went down and I was trying to reinstall and everyone was pming me. the only way a 4500 could work with a rom 102 card is if it is a married ex sub to the receiver and you can unlock it and add tiers to it, since the 4500 is not jtaggable w/o removing the tsops and getting a external programmer which then I do not know where to get the definition files for the tsops.
Hey, no problem, sorry about that,I usuallt don't PM mod's,but this thing has just been a pain in the ass.
I picked up a greyhound programmer so I am able to program the tsops, just not change the box keys and IRD info.
Iwas working great about a month ago with V28 blocker but when the blocker was updated to V28d that's when I started to have problems with it.
Have you got any suggestions on how to move some of the blocker around? I think that it's over writing some thing on the gendt08 file I think.
Thanks
STP

crazy1_79, you need to read more! LOL.
There are plenty of TSOP bins for grey box models at thefileshopdotcom and other fine DSS sites. And since STP already has an in-circuit TSOP programmer, he is in good shape to deal with the 4500. His problem is with the card programming end of things, not the IRD.
BTW - if you need to be brought up to speed on grey box programming, just let me know. Always glad to contribute.

I know greypower, I get a little behind sometimes. I forgot about those greyhound programemr they came out with, and yes I know there are a few tsop in the downloads for greyboxes. but alot of those guys had way more money into equipment than what that greyhound costs. it wasn't worth it. but greyhound now closes that up. I think I should own one.

my question is, what software do you use? can you mod the tsop how you want it and where do you get the definition files for the greyboxes? I know, use the search button, but give me a heads up here.

Are you referring to the cfg files for gendt08? I have the info for most grey box firmware versions in my "archives". The only problem I'm aware of with that proggy is that it doesn't properly calculate the app. area checksum for grey box bins. You have to use flashedit to fix the checksum after you mod the file(s). And if you are modding a 4000/4500, there are 2 TSOP files, and gendt08 requires that you open the smaller one (U26) first.
You can reprogram the on-board TSOP with the exception of the locked (read-only) boot sector. This means you can mod the firmware, but not change the IRD# or box keys. If you want to change the IRD info, you have to either get the TSOP unlocked (with a flash programmer that has this capability) or substitute a socketed 29F040 DIP chip for the TSOP.
4000/4500 models require reprogramming BOTH flash chips (for firmware mods).
