View Full Version : Is ROMCODE worth It?

I just purchased a DP311 to test. I eventually hope to write my own 3m and blocker like back in the dave days, but Im not that advanced in the new plastic yet. Is there a publicly available 3M (not just activation?) that will work on the 311? Or is ROMCODE worth the price? How many people get the blocker code, is it customer exclusive or is it shared with all customers?
romcode does NOT do 311 or 811's....but if you have 102's it is awesome, very user friendly....doesn't get any easier

I thought the 311 used all 102 programming, but the boxkeys were valid and stb and cam were married, so you just left that stuff alone? I saw on another website that sold ROMCODE for a 311, but I didnt buy from there. I got mine here.
Either way, I could just buy a heat station and another IRD, and take the BGA chip, mount it to an old emu board I have, and use that as a real 102... If thats what it comes down too.
In the meantime, is the tier patch and blocker linked to in this sites stores 311 description the best bet? Or is there a true 3m that gets all the locals?
yes, I was just reading mili's new post on what to buy if a newbie...and stated 311 and romecode.....but when I got romcode it said no 311 support ... will look in to it...... I have a few of these

Check the romcode site, I think I read that they will now support 311's.....personally I don't see why they would not.

From what I read yesterday, you can use Romcode on 311 and 811.But you have to move some cam info around.I'm not sure what in all is involved

Does anyone know the location (address) of the cam, box keys etc, anything that would need to be changed in the bin? Is it even POSSIBLE to read the card after romcode writes it (I understand that romcode does all the writing?) to make editing the bin file possible?

I'm not sure off hand, but check 102 programming info,at top of page,it tells you
no you cannot read it ,it would need to be unlocked first but if u r using an ex-subbed then you won't need to redo box keys if not you'll need to go into settings and put check on use private bin..it will then give you the box keys and ID to use

You can unlock your card and read info,if its a xsub. Not after Romcode programs it.They put their blocker on it,after that you will not be able to get back into it.

I know the card can be unlocked. I only meant after ROMCODE. I pretty much already knew that ROMCODE would relock the card.
Has Anyone been able to find info on the 311 and ROMCODE? I just looked at another dealers site (the third result on google for romcode) and they claim Romcode works with the 311, Also, on the ROMCODE website, it says:
As long as the card currently works and gets video on at least one channel (other than the freebie channels), then no receiver modification such as Jtagging the TSOP is necessary and this software will allow you to apply your own tiers and lock the card to protect it.
Wouldnt this imply that Romcode allows you to use your OWN CAM info? If that is the case, why wont the 311 work? I thought it would only be limited by it JTAG-ability. In this case that would not be an issue.
I agree, but then why was it previously in other posts, posted not to werk.... I would really like to know.....

Same here, I am pretty confused as of this point. What blocker should I use in the meantime? Also, any wide open 3m's for the 311?
This has been discussed, will update 311 how to, yes you can use ROMCODE on 311 and 811 with some hexediting. Whether it is worth it or now I posted my opinion on that in another thread go look for it.

Thank you Mili! Also, in your store, the romcode item is described as imcompatible with the 311 and 811. Just so you know.

im confused too. in the instructions for setting up a 311, i dont see where romcode comes into play here. i have read and re-read but dont seem to understand. im ordering a 311 from mili tomorrow and want to make sure what the purpose of romcode is, and why doesnt it mention it in the setup instructions.
I am an outcast here basically. In my opinion, freeware has always been the way to go. It keeps you up to date and teaches what your cam is about. Guarantee you will learn ten times as much with freeware.

I am testing BOTH the freeware and Romcode. I do agree that you learn more with the freeware. The first one I did was with DT-Tierworks and Penga's blocker. Romcode does provide " ease of use " and will get you good to go faster. The real advantage to Romcode is unknown until we get ECM'd. The Romcode blocker code is PRIVATE. Penga's code is PUBLIC. Romcode spoofs the cam to rev 108. Penga's Blocker spoofs it to rev 109. I don't know anything about coding. In theory, Romcode's blocker should be safer because the code is not public. Only time will tell. That's why I'm testing both.

Is there anyway to get romcode without limit on the number of cards that can be programmed?
no...would be nice though
