I just recently decided I was going to try this mod. I built a jtag with the buffer. It communicates with the PC using Jkeys 2.9.10 as well as 2.0.1. I can save all the EEPROM and flash data. However when i put the receiver in bootstrap it fails to communicate with the flash. (i can get the LED to come on) I get the error message "The Flash codes returned are not recognized by jKeyes. Mfg/Device codes returned are 6369/73 (JEDEC) and 6369/73(Flash File)"
I saw another post here dealing with this problem but the guy was able to erase the flash but not program. Jkeys will detect the flash type as intel and that, but the boxes on the bottom left will not be enabled, as per directions on unwink.

I tried a simple Jtag with only the 5 resistors and it gave the same results. I've tried two computers AMD 1200 with windows XP as well as win 98. And a P3 733 with XP. I've also tried changing the parallel port to different settings (EPP, ECP and normal. I'm using a 6 foot parallel cable that I know for a fact is good. The Jtag is installed to the Main board via an IDC connector and header using 8 inches of wire. The buffer used in the one design is a 74HC244N, power is taken from the IRD.

The IRD is a DRD420RE. The IRD is a dual chip model. If jkeys is receiving Mfg/Device codes why would it not recognize them? Is there more to this error message?

Any ideas?

there is your problem dude. your JTAG wire should be maybe about a foot. that 8 foot cable u are using is making it time out remove the 8 foot cable and try again. unplug for 5 secs. plug in and press OK within 3 secs to reboot the IRD. let me know how everything turns out

"8 foot cable" I never said 8 foot cable. Are you refering to the actuall parallel cable, that's 6 feet. I tired the unpluging and hitting ok within three seconds, what does this really do?. At first I though it was an alternate way to bootstrap. But now i don't know?

get rid of the 6 foot cable. the transfer bits through a JTAG are very sensative so the wires have to be short. you can unplug the DB25, reboot the unit and plug the JTAG back in to the parallel port. if you don't do this, programming will never happen. read older posts and you will see what i am talking about. the unplug and hit OK resets the JTAG interface so you don't get any errors from previous time outs

Six Feet is to much, And you might have to reboot. Good Luck.

Click ok on the error screen then select the correct IRD from the drop down menu.......
If you cut the trace and put 5v to FP you don't need the light to come on, just go straight to flash programming.
If you don't put 5v to FP then the light has to be on with the dev panel routine, but sometimes that don't work either, and you will then need to cut trace and apply 5v to FP
