Thanks to you guy's posts and Mili's instructions, I finished the first of 3 430 mods.
Couple of things I learned...
I used unwink's JTAG board and put a right angle db25 connector on it.
Turns out his disclaimer about the extra pin holes to allow this is for good reason. The right angle connectors pins are a mirror of the correct pin-put. I got 0xFFFFFFFF every time, even with the receiver powered off, because the connections were backward. I got a straight cup-type DB25, unsoldered the right angle, replaced it, and still got 0xFFFFFFFF, but not when the receiver was powered off. Then I got the 0x00000000. This seemed to indicate the JTAG was OK and I had another problem.
The other problem was while trying to make the backward version work, I had set the parallel port in the BIOS to Bi-Directional. Set it back to EPP, and it flashed like a dream.
Need some help, though. Two of the receivers including the one I have finished are 430RG. Just to see what I am facing, I opened up the 430RGA.
There is a yellow mark across the chip number.
Alchohol will not take this off, and I am afraid carb cleaner will take the chip number off along with the yellow mark.
Attached is a pic. Any suggestions?
