Should I buy this?

I have come across somebody offering up a dishnet/bell 301/3100 reciever with a rom 102 card rev 3. Wopuld this be a good purchase for myself, who is very green at this plastic deal

Your information is faulty-- as far as I know, there is no rom 102 rev 3. Maybe this is just nomenclature I haven't encountered before.

Look in the corner of the card also and tell us if it says AA-04 of SW-05 or whatever and it will be clearer whether it is even programmable right now. :)

Also, should I be buying an and ISO Programmer, or an Unlocker? Can an unlocker do the same opperation as the ISO programmer?

I guess my question is if the card turns out to be locked, do I need one, the other, or both units?

The card will be locked - unless someone else unlocked it. You'll need an unlocker, or find someone who can unlock it for you. An unlocker can usually be used as a programmer, but most people prefer to use an iso programmer for reading and writing to the card. So it's up to you if you want both.

301-10is easyer than 301-13 no video mod neaded. If you are shopping find something that won't require more procedure. Like if Im in the market for a new 501 find one that has the DT chips so I dont have to mod it. make sure it has a jtag port. Mabey get one with a married card (xsub) so you won't have to use GENDT_08. to marry the 2 together ect. Your not ready to buy until you know what its going to take to get it running.
