VIEWSAT REP. ADMITS THIS ONE IS TOUGH! (NEWS: July 26th)
We have no current date when we think a fix will be released. The Viewsat team has admitted they underestimated the complexity of this ECM. Viewsat continues to work towards a CARDLESS (same as always) solution, while other manufactures have decided to temporarily fix their boxes with card sharing and emu. (Their choices indicate they are waiting for Viewsat to come up with the fix). Although this is taking some time, they believe they can beat this one, but will consider other options if they don't have the fix soon. They realize that we have been without tv for over 1 month now.

VIEWSAT HAS BREAKTHROUGH! ( NEWS: July 26th 1:30pm )
Viewsat has indirectly announced " .... they had a major break through yesturday and said they are very very close now. We don't know when it will be done but I can see light from the end of the tunnel. If only this traffic jam will start moving maybe we can get out by end of the week. " - Thanks to Paul B for bringing this to our attention.

don't hold your breath....
x2. people fail to realize how many rom 102's are subbed, and then fail to realize all the 311's and 811's are out there. For dish to swap the 102, they would have to recall all those ird's since its on the chip, and the card reader on them are disconnected so its not as easy as placing a sw card in there. Plus swap out all the 102 cards, which is alot easier than ird's. You can believe dish isnt overnighting ird's for any swap.

I remember reading that the card slots in the cardless ird's can be activated with an update from the data stream. They won't have to swap out any receivers if they wish to perform a card swap.
A card swap will still take some time to complete if that's the plan.

I seem to remember, back in the N1 days when people were first opening up their 311's, that a lot of these receivers had a card slot present in the chassis but that it wasn't actually connected to the internal board. It was just a case of using up some left over 301 shells.

Like I said, I remember reading it somewhere and it made sense. I've never seen the inside of a cardless unit to know for sure. It seems kind of dumb to have a card slot but not make it useable. The cost of swapping out receivers will cost them alot more than the money they saved by using left over 301 shells, but who am I to question what Chuck does.

all the 311's i have seen have never been hardwired into the unit.
