Here's something different:

I modded a 420RE, the mod went well,
plugged it in, got the PCR20 as expected,
put a card in w/ Act, PPV's work, others, all I get is Searching for satellite signal,
put a card in w/ 3m, again only PPV's work, others I still only get searching for satellite signal,

whats up? Help?

Be sure the dish type is correct in setup.....

Hi

Check your signal strength menu to see if you get both even and odd transponders. If not, you have fried the LNB chip by leaving the BFR connected to GRND for too long.

Dish type is correct,

Activation scripts work in other receiver
3m works in other receiver

signal strengths is about 80-90ish

If your sure both the even and odd transponders work then the flash process may have had errors. Erase 3 times then reflash.

Uh oh.. I double checked odd & even transponders... even ones are 0 and odds are at 80+, is there a fix??? please say yes

What is the ideal time to have the BFR connected? I've done about 20 420s and never had a problem, it's usually connected to ground, until I finish programming the flash, at that time I disconnect the JTAG along with the BFR, so I don't understand why its happening now.

Also, if the LNB chip is fried, shouldn't all transponders be 0? Why would only half work?

Assuming the IRD worked before modding, it's probably mod related, but if it was untested before moding, probably bad before modding too. Check your voltage at the sat in connector with the sat cable disconnected, should be 13v alternating to 18v every couple seconds.

Hi

I have performed probably sixty 420RE mods and didn't discover the cause till I had 3 dead ones. One has no even, one no odd and to round it out the last one has none at all.

As soon as possible, after the plug has been inserted, pull the BFR to Ground.

I'm not sure why this happens using a buffered JTAG but I do know that the next 40 or so programmed without a hitch and all transponders in tact.

By the way, if anyone figures out exactly what components get toasted in this process, please post it as I have 3 IRDs I'd like to get going without troubleshooting the entire boards.

Whenever possible test before modding, be sure that the mod isn't the cause of the trouble..420s are known for bad diodes and transistors in the LNB power section, and relatively easy to fix...

Is it the diode at location CR 26101? It's just in between the Sat-In and the Out-To-TV areas. It's orange and black round, is that what you're talking about?

Sometimes a 420 will have 2 diodes.
Check the voltage first, if it is very low or zero, diode is probably bad if it is 20 or so steady, TIP42A transistor is bad.
Don't make extra work, check volts first.........

where is the location of the same diodes in a 430RG ? I have this same problem in this receiver
