Ok am ready to check out a positioner and mount a dish calibrate it . I have a 36 inch dish and mast, and several lnbs from charlie and dave . What kind of dish mover system do I need to get going with MT and a ywinhan 102g, which has performed very well in spite of the bad rep that it has around the net. anybody have any opinions/ links to these items's?

This is the one I got and it works very well. Other people recommended it to me and it has a very good reputation. Got it for about $80 shipped.

I don't know what you mean. Once properly setup for your location it rotates the dish on the proper arc frome east to west hitting all satellites in the arc. All satellites available to you are located on this arc so proper setup is crucial but it just moves left or right. For example I move from east to west and pickup 61.5, 82, 91, 97, 101, 110, 119, 121, 129, 148.

You are aware that positioner is for an offset dish.. If the dish you have is a prime focus, it won't work. You're probably gonna need a linear lnb,, the one's you have are probably circular...

what about a universal LNBF?I have a Primestar also 36 inch its not the oval its more round it measures 36 x 39 inches.I had to build the arms to hald the LnBs found this Dish and it didn't have any at all.I guess you'd call it Prime focus since it has 2 arm brackets coming from the side and on from the bottom.I calculated the focal point which should come out to be 27.14 inches.I bought a 3 lnb holder so I can mount 3 different LNBF's to it to pick up different Sats..I know one I wish to get is G10r but not sure where its located to the right of 119 or to the left?

Thanks guys, I know now about the arc and how it is determinesd which sat's are available at my geo location. I have the primestar just as WyldCherry described. I want to reach out and see even the foreighn programs if I can, I know that I am needing the positioner and also thought about the lnb's, I would like to have as many as I need to see what ever is out there. This dish has the mast mounted to the dish there is no offset, like dave/charles. Is there a good place to read about these items so as to gain enough knowledge to make a reasonably good choice?? .

Treelover, you're right about the offset dish being a slice off a parabola, but when the dish is installed, it's not pointed directly at the satellite, but it's at an angle and the signals hit the dish at an angle and reflect back to the lnb. You notice the lnb is not in the center of the dish. On a prime focus, the lnb is in the center of the dish. So, when the prime focus is set up, it is pointed directly at the satellite..
I may be wrong (have been before), but I think the offset is what makes the dish follow the arc of the sats. You've seen the big dishes, they're prime focus, and the mechanism that rotates the dish is much more complicated than that little motor.
