All of a sudden I have no signal. I have a dish 500 with a Quad LNB and 501 receiver. I tried hooking up the receiver to a diferent wire on a different LNB jack and it didn't work. I tried a check switch and it didn't work. I tried hooking up my old dual DTV LNB and that didn't work but if I am correct, that LNB would require a switch and my dish Quad LNB has the switch built in so the DTV LNB wouldn't pick up a signal anyway, right? Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Any way I can narrow down (if I haven't already) the problem so I know what to do or buy to solve it? Thanks.

Did your dish move?

Your DTV LNB wont work with DN equipment dont bother trying that.

If I do a check switch and it comes up as an error, could that mean the switch or LNB is bad? It's a Legacy Quad so the switch is built in. Would an error on checking switch mean anything else or does that not matter? Would it give an error simply for no signal anyway?

See if your IRD is putting out volt 10 - 20 to the switch

Also, check your 501 SW version. Should be @ P360. Might need an update.
Unplug the box for 15 min. Sometimes that will clear the static buildup.

Really though, it sounds like the Quad has gone bad.

DTV LNB will work with old DN equipment; I've done it myself.

I used two dishes to get the two birds until I could find a Dish500

I took my 501 to a neighbor's house and it still didn't pick up a signal yet his 301 did. Does that mean that the problem is not my Quad LNB but rather the 501? Is it possible for a 501 to suddenly lose signal? I've never heard of that.

damn, i had my money on the dog theory.....lol......don't know from 501, but on the 3100 right at the sat input terminal there is a flat square "can"....if you remove the cover there is a chip that can separate from the board causing loss of signal.......carefully apply heat to get the solder under the chip to flow while gently pushing down with a tool....remove heat and let cool while applying pressure......what was that called guys?....a max chip or something?....like i said, i don't know about the 501, but for a while back it was a common problem with the 3100......maybe your problem?
