r44 vidmod

i have a 501 refurbed with the 323gt chips,i know it has to be vidmoded,i'm having a tough time marring the hd,my question is do you leave the r44 out while the marrying is taken place then re install after you've wrote your last tsops and eeprom or do you take it in and out twice?i have it playing, just no hd yet.and also is there any thing you can use in place of the r44 resistor?

Nope, just put a jumper where the resistor used to be.

That resistor is of a very low rating. It is basiclly a piece of wire.
