blows out, but IMHO that little fan is not enough to keep a good temperature level inside the 501.

This IRD model is been known for getting too hot because of the HDD and eventually that causes a little conexant chip to lose some of its soldering points. This leads to an intermitent loss of signal, even if all dish connections are properly placed.

I suffered this particular problem with mine, so what I did was install 2 additional fans which are used for drive cooling and placed them right behind the hard disk, which eventually lowered the temperature stress placed to the conexant chip.

It's been two years now, and the IRD has been working flawlessly.

omare, the additional fans you added, do they blow in or out?

If you ask me, if I was sweating my balls off, I sure would want a fan blowing on me instead of away! :D

LMAO ... I'd sure be wanting air blowing in too! and as a matter of fact those two are blowing cool air in. Just the one that came stock was blowing out.

It's incredible how much a difference in temperature those two little guys made. I remember before the modding you could feel the case warm right above the hard drive, now that part is always cool to the touch and most importantly my conexant chip problems went away.

Yeah, I remember reading about you guys having overheating problems with those awhile back. Yall were trying everything short of putting a 10lb sack of ice on them. LOL  :D
