I installed Windows Vista RC1 on my machine and it trashed it. Stupidly, the only copy of my 811's clean bin was on the machine.

Looking for some advice on what I should do. I've obtained clean standard ROM102 images and a clean 311 image. Will I be able to work anything out with those or do I need an actual 811 bin? If I can, what besides box keys and cam will I need to change to make things match up well?

I of course still have the bin that's on the receiver now, but it's loaded up with tiers and a blocker, so it's a mess.

Thanks again for any advice. I'm a moron for not putting a copy of it anywhere else.

Nope. Wouldn't be in this situation if I could.

did you format the drive?
if you didn't you can retrieve it: go to CompUsa and get one of those el-chepo USB HD enclosures. Pop your HD in it and find a working computer with a USB. Plug it in and viola = you can get anything from the drive you need.

Yes, the drive was formatted. The file is not retrievable.

even if you formatted the hard drive... as long as you don't keep writing over your hard drive like crazy you can STILL recover your file. Even if the partitions were deleted and re-created.

You need to use software like "Get data back" or "easy recovery" from Ontrack. These applications let you recover files even after the conditions mentioned above. Just note this, the more you keep writing and modifying info on your computer right now, the slimmer the chances for you to recover the files.

good luck... and ALWAYS backup to DVD and never keep things on the hard drive only. Specially you precious bins and TSOP backups.

What do you mean its a mess? As long as you have the activation info
on the receiver, you should be good to go.. You can clean and edit your bin on
your 811 and readd tier and locals if you want..

If need be, send me the bin off your 811.. I will hook you up...

Thanks. I tried to clean it, but got an internal communication failure on the receiver (error 122) when I reapplied.

I'll play with it a little more and see what i can do. I appreciate the offer and I may take you up on it if I can't figure it out.

Thanks again.

Loosing orginal internal cam bins isn't good is bad , Once you do you'll start running into impossable problems , you said you have a bin for it that's prepared ?
get the box keys, IRD,& cam #'s and be prepared to remove the cam & mount it on an old card or passive innerface so you can use it as a reg. 102 in another receiver like 2700 - 3900. If you cut it out it seem's easier to attach wires just like done when it was internal rather than useing heat to lift it than soidering to pin points.
