Tired of 744/745. Thinking of doing a No ZKT.
Any suggestions on which IRD to get?
Thanks.

About four months ago I asked this exact same question. There were several responses. Technically, the rca 303/403 is the easiest mod to perform. However, this mod will cost $15 for the new chip, and $150 for a chip programmer plus the UV eraser if you should need it. This will cost you at least an additonal $75. You are much better off going with the 420 mod. It is a better reciever, and the financial investment to do the mod is less than half as much. The mod on the 420 will cost you about $50 whether you buy a jtag and do it yourself, or ship it off to have a pro do it for you. Personally, I think my money is better spent to have pro joe do it for me. Considering what you end up with, it's quite the bargain. If you want the nozkt mod, you will want an RCA model. The best and most common model for the nozkt mod is the RCA 420.

I've done several 420's now all with a simple j-tag, $.99 for 5 pack of resistors and an old printer cable. like all of this you will have to read, different variations and decide what make most sense. all the info is available and plenty of help also...I recomend it for ease although the cost of them on e-bay has gone up.I have a couple for sale in sale forum already modded if you choose. It's the best way to test if you don't have a subbed bin.

I looked at other nozkt. The 420s is the easiest, the cheapest, and nice IRD as well.

Maybe I got lucky or something because I build two Jtags from unwink's instruction with regular PC boards, all works great. I never had any problem with recognition or modding. Done a 222 & 420. Will do two more 420 in the comming week. One problem I have was the the cheap socket didn't make the connection with the chip but it was easy to find with an Ohm meter.

a 420 for a first time modder is probably the easiest, but I now much rather do a 430 because I can do them in 1/2 the time it takes for a 420....

Hi skinerd,

I loan my 430 out of state so don't have one to look at right now. Could you tell me if there are "holes" on the 430, like those on 420, which I can put the headers in? On my 420, I put header on all the jtag ports,GND,VCC,FP,BFR.... That way, I can connect my Jtag and reflash quickly, accurately, receiver is cleaner that way too.

Thanks.

no, no holes, and the jtag port is small.
see unwink site for a pic....

no, no holes, and the jtag port is small.
see unwink site for a pic....

Make an adapter out of a header and some small wire, solder the adapter in and plug jtag into that.....

Mili has most of the mod instructions is his download section as well. I think mili's instructions a bit more detailed too. At least for the 420 it seemed that way.
