For the 303 and the 502, you will need an eprom programmer, or will need to buy a programmed eprom. (you can get eproms on eBay, buy the chip and email the seller the program you want burned onto the chip.) You can also get programmers on eBay if you want to do your own.

You can buy a 430xx for about $40 with a P4 card, you will need a JTAG interface, some soldering skills, and a big honkin magnifier. You might get away with lower magnification on a 420.

I have not seen the 406 in a mod list. Between the 303 and the 502, do the 303 if it is your first. Cheap to replace if you have a catastrophic failure, and the nuances of build date/mod# are very well documented.

I agree with borg and 00. The 303 will end up costing you four times as much to do if you have to buy the chip, programmer and uv eraser; about $250. Plus, the 303/403's, while very dependable recievers, have what I think is a crappy user interface (menu/guide). You could get lucky though, and get a model 303/403 that already has the eprom chip socketed. This would mean all you have to do to do the mod is snap out the original eprom, and snap in your new, programmed eprom. To mod the 420 all you need is a jtag and some soldering skills or connections to somebody who does; $40-$50 whether you send it off to be modded or do it yourself. The RCA 420 is a much nicer reciever to run than the 303/403.

A 32 pin eprom socket cost's .14 cents. If you have the soldering skills the chip and socket will cost you about $20 including shipping. I like mouser, but you may prefer another supplier. The chip you need is the 100/120ns M27C801 32 pin, uv eraseable eprom chip. The entire mod for this model is in the chip programming. Since you already have everything else you need, for only $20 you may as well do the 303. The flashes for the chip are at mili's downloads in the nozkt section. The 420 is a much nicer reciever though. You just break into that model via the jtag interface, reprogram the flash chip and do a few other things. Skinerd is the resident nozkt guru. You may want to familiarize yourself with exactly what a nozkt reciever can and can not do. You can still get the 745 nag with a nozkt unit. If the bin is officially blacklisted, then it will go 745 no matter what. This confused me a bit at first, but don't panic if this happens. The nozkt lets you make up a cam id, and the reciever can not tell it is not legitimate. (I use cam #'s that are WAY larger than any cam that will actually be produced) The other really cool thing a nozkt does for you is tiers are not wiped off of activation scripts with a nozkt. This lets you write your own cam id, your own activation script with act workshop and then put that info on the card. Everything will work, no tier wipes, no way to verify if cam is legit....the script will stay up until dtv changes the tiers or the date you set it to expire rolls around. I think that the nozkt is hands down the only way to go these days. If you can do the dish mods, the dave mods will look like childs play to you.

I have three RCA DTV receivers: DRD303RA, DRD502RB, and DXD406RD.

Which can I do the No ZKT mod on? Which one should I do it on?

TIA.

Details please............
Pretty complicated manuver, best is to convert to single chip as a GLA has 2 flashes and the eeprom needs to be changed...not really a simple project, my advise would be to pick up a 420......
