i did the 4 wire 2 cut trace and attached apermenent jtag all my wires are about 18 inches long and I used IDE wire, when I bring up jkeys it reads 501-5100 so I choose 510-5900 and all info is there all going great at this point so I go to flash programming still all is good but when I try to save flash 1 it starts to read and errors out at about 13% I also notice the green light turns on and off but doesn't seem to matter it errors out anyway

thanks for any info good people

do you have oj1 jumpered?

woods, do I need to unsolder the jtag pad 1 or leave it? and shouldn't I be able to read and save the flashes without the oj1?

thanks

I got it going I unsoldered the pad 1 connection and removed it I then added the oj1, I couldn't solder the jumper so I just put a wired switch between the connections for the oj1

all is now fine

thanks good people

whats your board rev? my DFJD jtag works without oj1, and i have an unbuffered jtag too. i just cut the male end off a printer cable and soldered 100 ohm resistors inline and soldered those wires to the board. those were 30 ga wires, really fine. but i just flip the switch and write/read away!

mine is a DC8A, to tell ya the truth it probably would of worked without the oj1 cuz the problem was at pad 1 once I disconected it all was good

thanks

Dont mean to butt in but I just finished jtagging and vid-modding my 510 and I can read and write TSOP fine but it wont boot and neither of the light s ever come on.

Soldermonkey, did you use the OJ1 mod to flash on that unit? If so.... be sure you have the OJ1 postion back to normal. If the OJ1 is still connected it will not allow the unit to boot up.

If you happened to use the PAD1.....be sure the connection is removed after you flash the unit.

Yep...I have both OJ1 pads wired to a mini toggle switch to turn it on and off. And I have another switch next to it for the vid mod. I tried it with the switches on and off and never get any lights on the front panel.

Maybe a bad tsop and or eprom?

I can program both TSOPS and the EPROM so they cant be bad. I did the 3 wire 1 trace cut vid mod and have been reading that it can fry the CPU. Is there any way to confirm this? I had an old vid mod guide and I should have read more before I did it because they found a waaay easier and safer way.

yes there is an easier way....the R44 removale no cut method is great but it won't work for the 320DT chip models.

Yes you can fry the CPU but how do you know the tsops are good? Are they the virgin tsops saved from the unit or are you using downloaded tsop/eprom?

Be sure you erase flash 1(u6) 1st . Flash 2 (U7) gets erased at the same time as flash 1. Then just reprogram flash 2 as flash 1 will get programmed at the same time. Then reprogram the eprom.

I tried the virgin tsop/eprom and the ones from my working 508, and yes I erased flash 1 first. Something strange though because the virgin flashes that I saved from it had all fff for box keys and the ird # was mosty zeros. Also the build config was DFBA instead of DFBB which is what is on the sticker on the board.

New development: I was told by someone else to flash with virgin firmware so I did so successfully but in the process I noticed that in Jkeys the bootstrap is showing all XXXX instead of DFBA. The tsop shows the DFBA in Flashedit. Why isnt it showing a bootstrap after a successfull programming to the TSOP2 and virgin EEprom?

Soldermonkey,
Build config is not the same as Bootstrap. Bootstrap is the address of the loader code. It depends upon which Virgin version you chose as to where the bootstrap will be located. Don't worry about xxxx in the Bootstrap box. That just means that Jkeys is looking in the wrong location for the version of code you loaded.
