Here's a liberal thread idea that will most likely go nowhere LOL
In the interest of worldwide harmony, how about members tell about where they went where the culture was different?
I'll start with...A CANADIAN IN TEXAS
First stop:
The Alamo. Not as hokey as I had feared and even a east coast lib like myself got choked up. You can sense the pride and also the struggle that took place not very long ago.
It helped that I grew up with cowboy shows on TV, and that when I started school they had to pry the holster and six guns from my hands. Remember the Alamo mofo!
p.s. never knew that most of the dudes, Crocket et al, were drunk!?
Next stop: A "nature reserve."
Here the owner had deer-like animals from Africa running free on his ranch... until they were gunned down by the paying customers hahahaha
The owner was also proud of the "wetland" he was creating in the backyard of his house, where his kids could watch ducks stop on their flight from Canada. And even more proud of the duck blinds he'd set up a mile away...
Next stop: Banderas: cowboy country
Great stop! Drank beer, saw an excellent Texas swing band, ate steak and brisket.
Noticed there was lots of mesquite in the surrounding countryside, which seemed very authentic and Texas-like.... until someone later told me mesquite is ALL that will grow anymore cuz the cattle ate all the grass. Price to pay for the beef and brisket, I guess!
Final stop: Corpus Christi. Saw the house of Farrah Fawcett. HOT DAMN. Got my photo taken fondling the ass of the Selena statue in the town square. Went to the beach and admired the oil rigs off in the distance. Went into water and got badly bit on foot by some sort of Texas crab or lobster.
All in all, a good trip! Next time, I plan to go to Houston to drink cough syrup and listen to crunk with the homeboys, anyone know where to go lemme know
