View Full Version : Did any receivers that had a softlock installed get ECM-ed yesterday?
Also is there a version or instructions where and what to edit (maybe a new flashedit) on a current firmware 301?

Yes. Been playing around with a 301-010 that was
hit. Flashedit still works. So far I found if you jtag
and save both tsop's of a hit receiver. Then open them up in flashedit and check the ECM fix box. Save them as a personal dump.
It will say no ecm found. Don't worry it did find it
and fix it. Next close the current flashes then open up the ones you just saved. Now check the write softlock box. Save again as a personal dump. Add something like "with softlock" to the file name.
Again it will say patch not found. Again don't worry it was written to the dump.
Now write u22 or flash 1 back to your receiver with jkeys. u23 or flash2 will have no changes and you don't have to rewrite it.
Still playing with this one. As soon as I get a little time I'll narrow it down to a specfic sector. That way you can read the sector and change a few bytes of data and rewrite just the sector.
They have moved the location in the TSOP of
where the hit and softlock need to be fixed and
installed.

Glad to see you are alive and well. You got me worried a bit, sent you emails and all. Thank you for the post please let us know if you figure what to edit on the 301 and 27(8)00 receivers to manually input soft locks. You are a real asset here.

My point is why bother with current softlocks when they got hit?

You dont have to Jtag after Ecm.... just pull card and ird resets.
My original question was if they got hit meaning having to re-JTAG the receiver. Now did they get wiped out or will a reboot fix it with the current softlocks?

Mili,
I have a 301, 4900 both Dish with softlocks installed.
The softlock worked on both through the last ECM, pulled the card and reset. Actually did it a few times on the 301
Yes, they worked. I have heard that the softlock success may have something to do with the software revision on the receiver.

I think I may have misunderstood the question. The softlock does not prevent the "serious error" nag hit. It only prevents the end result of only getting America's top 1 after the hit.
With softlock installed you should be able to pull the card, reinsert it, wait for it to restart, redo the check switch (If no eeprom lock is installed. For some reason the hit wipes the eeprom to virgin status).
You should end up with all the channels back until the next cycle of the hit. If the softlock is working.

I have 2 301.010 irds with software lock and they got hit. I used flash edit to set them up and s/w lock them. I also told the IRD to not take any downloads without asking me.
I got the 101 info channel and that's it now. s/w lock did not work on my ird tonght but it has for the last few days? I am going to hard lock now. I have just has too much inconsistancy with the s/w locks.

So when ever a ECM is sent out and people are saying they gotten hit and IRDs were hit but all of my IRDs are working just fine is that a good thing or a bad thing. When ever an ECM is sent out should'nt it affect everyone or just some people. I the ppv's get knocked out does that mean i've been ECM'd?What would be the best fix for the PPV?

The only way to hit everyone at the same time is if everyone is using the exact testing method at the same time. With exactly the same info like camid, ppv stirng, blocker ect.
Not being hit is a good thing everytime. Whatever the target was you are not using it with your testing method. Two testing units can be setup exactly the same with maybe one difference like cam id. One gets hit one dosen't. So the cam id was the target in this case.
Same thing only both get hit. Say it's a double whammy. Charlie is hitting both PPV stirngs and cam id. You pull the ppv strings off both one gets hit the other dosen't. The reason would be you eliminated one target on both (the ppv string) but a second target is still on the second one (bad cam id).
So you can have many testers get hit. All of them being hit by the one or many ECM's for different reasons depending on the induvidual testers setup. While at the same time many never get hit at all.
That's why I like testing charlie. Makes you think. It's not just a simple one for all fix everytime a ECM (or multiple ECM's) come down the stream. It can be a one for all fix like a blocker hit since many use the same blocker. But that's a lot easier to figgure out so charlie seems to be using it less lately.

My question is as follows:
Did any one figure out what sector the software lock is located in.
The reason I need the sector and not the whole file is because when I write the whole dump it always gives me a bad write (cant write past some address) It only happens in Flash 1. That is not really my consern because it is one of the last sectors apperently of the receiver - I could always stream fix it.
I am sure I will not run into a problem writing a sector to the flash individualy. What bugs me is that Software Locks have been out for years now and yet no one posts how they have achieved it or what they have done (I am not counting the "Hit the Apply Softwre Lock Button"). I am looking for a specific sector to edit and what bytes.
Thank you.

With you saved Tsop image do a search for EA62 that is the line you need to change. You will need hex workshop to do this, there might be other software that do this but I don't know. This has been posted few times, Click on the search button and type in softlock read all the posts throughly you will find the answer.

Is EA62 all you have to search for? I read to search for EA62FFFFFFFF. I searched E469 firmware and only found a pattern EA62FF00.... Is that where I edit for the soft lock
smkstang1,
I am sort of new but when you find the string in a search you can note the address. Find the sector that contains that address and try that. Or save all sectors and search each one.

OPEN U22 in HexWorkshop, go to 0007D9FC
Find E6 A2 FF FF FF FF FF
