I don't know about the rest of you, but I think it is time to change the way this forum works.

Look, we have a key change and this is the status:

263 members and 807 guests

The member cannot get in, the server is overloaded and S_L_O_W!

This needs to be a members only forum, IMAO!

Yes I agree!

Maybe at times like this a guest limit should be imposed, so just not to shut every one out and yet let the members have access.

is there a way of doing what drwolf said??? I think his idea is excellent maybe a guest limit of 300 or 400?

WHy do you have to come to the forum to find out what the keys are. There are several standalone applications to retrieve the keys Dish and/or Bev out there.

It is bad yes for helping members to not be able to get on during peak times.
This has always been a place where ANYBODY could come and read without signing up.

The quest and the huge server load is something we just have to live with I guess.
Be sure you guys get the key grabber, that way if the site is overloaded then maybe one of us mods have had a chance to update it..I really cant say which way I go on this one.
I like the unlimited access but also posting members should not suffer because of readers..I guess I stradle the fence..

anyways of posting the keys on a title page or something that jumps out??That way the guests that come only for the keys, can see it write it down and then leave if they wish

Myself I use keymaster, but this time there was an error in the program, so I had to find them here.

Where did I say that I came here to "find" the keys? I had them of course (key ripper does not have them even now, BTW)!

I came here to make sure they were posted and there was already a post here with the wrong damn keys: guy said it was Key1 and had the wrong key too boot. It was Key0!

I'm not against having guests, but when the activity makes it impossible for members to get in then why not restrict guests?

I know that this fourm's software can do that to the guests!

So you think that the "guests" would be able to do that? Dream on!

Mili's key grabber is up to date.....this time anyway.

We've talked about capping the visitors, but it kind of goes against the philosophy of free speach/free access. I think bottom line is limiting the access in any way in the long run hurts business a bit. The mods don't even get special access privledges, so we all know exactly what your talking about Bandit. As long as at least one of the key grabber proggies are current it seems like mostly a mute point anyway to me. By the time you go through a good proxy everything is slow anyway.

Well I guess I'm on the fence too. One thing is for sure.. Mili is here to run a business. If there were no business, then this site would not exist. I'm betting business is mighty slow right now. So Mili is paying to support people that may not be buying anything.

I for one am thankful that Mili has kept this site going for so long. In good times and bad, it has always been home to me.

I would not be opposed to Mili doing something to help pay the bills. He deserves that. I don't know what though. Maybe you should have to buy something to be a member. Maybe a seperate server for members that spend X amount of $$.

Just spouting off really. I don't know what would be good. All I know is it will be a sad day indeed when this site has to close because of poor sales numbers. It could happen ya know?

I think I'll buy something right now. :)

Beer doesn't count!

To be serious though, I had overlooked the business aspect. Although I have bought several items from mili, I have bought elsewhere also! Not very thoughtful on my part! For the most part mili's prices are very fair and those couple of times I strayed I was not considering the benefits that mili offers us.

In the future, unless it is something that mili does not offer, he will get full support. I suspect that this is the case with many who frequent this forum also. Consider all that mili offers us beyond the price of the product.

As an example: who else offers RomCode for $70.00 for six months? No one I have seen!

So I understand the necessity of having guests, but hope there is some way to "favor" the regular users!

HAHAHA good one Bandit.

I am serious though. I really am spending money here tonight.

If your not already, a great way to support the site is to buy a VIP membership. It's only $25. You'll always have file access that way. Not that you can't get most of the same files elswhere for free, just saying the VIP membership is a great and inexpensive way to support the site.

Ohms
10-16-2006, 04:49 AM
you are right JT. Everyone that gets some value from this site should sign up for the VIP membership. I already am, but I had other "needs" tonight. I just though I would try to rally some support for the site by posting that.
Come on peeps. Step right up. Only 1/4 of a C note. Such a deal. Hurry Hurry Hurry..
You never know when the price might go up to $30. Get in now before it's too late.

Dealer preperation charges, State and Local Taxes may vary. Void where prohibited by law.

LOL.....

It is unimportant to impose restrictions of any kind on guests at a time of crisis, either keys or ecm's. Every DSS forum goes to hell when these things happen. Its part of the business. On the upside, maybe a guest will see something in the store that is eye catching and Mili will make sales from the extra traffic. Traffic is "KEY" to making sales. Without a surge in traffic a few times in a month, sales decline. Its bad business to kill prospective buyers of goods that Mili has for sale. It would be better to redirect the "members" to a different area or server than to redirect guests.

Maybe a mission statement from mili would help keep us all on the same page! Several of the other forums do that. What can it hurt? Good P/R for mili, IMHO!

The only difference between we the members and the guests is...... we registered.
If you put a cap on the amount of guests, then you will ahve more registered folks...
In the end, you;ve changed nothing except maybe kept a few folks away because they willnot register out of parinoa (sp.?).

I'm totally against the idea of limiting traffic of any kind.
The VIP membership is there to help those that don't like to wait and helps Mili a bit on paying the bills.

Personally, I don't see much a performance hit during peak times, but then again, I do other things, besides proxies, to hide myself.. I don't use a proxy for this site. I'm doing nothing illegal by having conversations and sharing information...

funny shit, ohms buying beer from Mili lol.

Take it easy on Bandit guys he is only giving his opinion, something we all do at times.

I have been to other sites and even non testing sites and the moment it asked me to register I bugged out.

Besides I used to like to read the forums as a guest when I did not plan on posting.

The Dogpoacher is right again, but they are not updated fast enough for the impatient. As for regeristing, I myself was and am paranoid, but the few sites that I have joined I feel comfortable with, and there were many that you couldn't get on without being a member, so thanks Mili to share this site with all.

Forcing people to register is good for the following, none of which I have interest in:

1, Inflating member count to impress.
2, Harvesting email addresses to spam with advertisement
3, Turning people away
4, Give the enemy more ammunition in case the site is busted or hacked into

So no thanks this site will not enforce registration. In case server load becomes too high there is a limiter in the forum that will turn people away and I always try to juggle things around to keep it up as long as it can be. You just have to learn to live with it sorry.

Okay, Okay! I admit it: I did not consider mili's position and was only thinking about the frequent posters when I initiated this thread!

My Bad!

No honestly, the points mili has raised never crossed my mind and it is his forum, his business and he knows what he is doing. I am sure I would see things his way if I were in his position.
