Broadening my knowledge of ol time country music

Other suggestions? figure there are a fair amount of rednecks on this board who know this shit well lol
Looking for old classic songs not really so-called new country...unless you insist that it is good. Also, are the versions I got of these songs the best ones?

How about just about ANYTHING by Cal Smith (country Bumpkin, Just Came Home to Count the Memories), or Meryl Haggard, Marty Robbins, Hal Ketchum, Randy Travis, Conway and Loretta, George Jones, Charlie Danials, sheesh, the list could be endless. Kris Kristofferson, Kenny Rogers, Roy Clark. My tastes seem to go back to the 50's and 60's and somewhat into the 70's for listening to REAL Country Music.
If you have DirecTV, you'll find two really good "channels" to listen too, America and Willie's PLace on XM Radio, and on DN look for Serious Radio and find The Roadhouse. These will help you "improve" your Country Tastes.
Good Luck and Enjoy.
I believe you have some REAL "countrifing to get done, Boy."
(smiles, and thanks for the memories)
Gonna check those out. Thanks!!!

Rose Colored Glasses by John Conley
No compilation would be complete without "I am a Man" by the Soggy Bottom Boys.
I'm bored and at work, I imagine I'll be chiming ibn from time to time as they hit me tonight.

I'm a classic rock fan, but I can remember listening to lots of Hank Thompson music back in the 60's. He was a major part of country music back then.
Is Johnny Cash country music?

Hey girl what-cha doin down there
Dancin' alone every nite while I live right above you
I can hear your music playin'
I can feel your body swayin'
One floor below me you don't even know me, I love you.
Oh my darlin' knock three times on the ceiling if you want me, umm
Twice on the pipe if the answer is no
Oh my sweetness (knock knock knock) means you'll meet me in the hallway
Woah, twice on the pipe (clang clang) means you ain't gonna show.
If you look out your window tonite
Pull in the string with the note that's attached to my heart
Read how many times I saw you
How in my silence I adored you
And only in my dreams did that wall between us come apart.
Oh my darlin' knock three times on the ceiling if you want me
Hmm, twice on the pipe if the answer is no
Woah my sweetness (knock knock knock) means you'll meet me in the hallway
Woah, twice on the pipe (clang clang) means you ain't gonna show.
Woah, I can hear the music playin', I can feel your body swayin'
One floor below me you don't even know me, I love you.

I'm very sad to say that Freddy Fender passed away on October 15 (last year) but this week XM Radio, Channel 10 (America) has been doing a LOT of his stuff. Originally started out singing JUST Mexican songs in Texas in the 50's, then Marines, and a few years in jail after that, then started out in Country Music, Wasted days was his SECOND big hit under the name Freddy Fender (Taken from the guitar he played) . His first big hit was "Till the next tear drop falls."

ACTUALLY, his first big hit was "White Sport Coat" back in the mid fifties (smile). I remember that because it was the song I got to dance with THE girl on the block that had the biggest hooters and all the other guys were jealous 'cuz she asked ME to dance. Well, hell, it WAS my birthday, eh?

White Sport Coat was first hit, but El Paso made him a rich and famous, I heard him say something to that effect during an interview.
