A little off topic here twostep, but yesterday when I was in town I saw a half dozen people outside KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken, you know, the "restaurant") Seems PETA thinks KFC boils their chickens alive. Of course, anyone with any brain pan knows that the chickens are dead and processed long before KFC gets ahold of them, but it kind of adds to the point you were making about political correctness now days. It's good that these young folks were standing up for something, but damn man, we need to teach them to think a little before blindly following some idiotic BS PETA comes up with. I've boycotted KFC myself, but it's because I think the food sucks, is over priced, and very unhealthy to boot. I love fried chicken, just not theirs.

I don't know where exactly were falling short, but it seems to me America's youth don't know how to think critically these days. It worries me greatly. I'd say it was the college environment that promotes it, but it wasn't like that at all when I was in school. When I was in college all my professors stressed critical thinking and to question everything including authority. Going through life being somebody elses pawn is no way to live IMO. Although as the saying goes, ignorance is bliss. When you start thinking for yourself life gets so much more complicated. When you start thinking for yourself you have to start standing up for your beliefs and supporting why you think the way you do. It takes so much more effort to do this as opposed to just falling in line with the current trends. Maybe America is just getting too lazy or too scared to go against the status quo. What ever the case, it's cause for concern among all Americans IMO.

Not really free health care, but an affordable government sponsored plan available to everyone with benefits comparable to traditional insurance plans. BTW, maybe you SHOULD try comparing the US to Canada, and while you are at it compare the US to other parts of the world. Check any of the many Standard of Living indexes where Canada regularly comes ahead of the U.S., for example.

And while I am no huge fan of big big government, there are places where it seems to have had some success, and the people get free health care, and the poor and insane are not out on the streets starving: Scandinavia, Germany, to name a couple.
