501 pvr issues....help

i just got one, came with remote and rom102rev108. i hook it to the tv, and i get signal and seems to be fine, other than the fact that i press the dvr button on the remote, and i can't ssem to get the dvr. the woman said it was never used, it was a replacement from d*sh. the main menu doesn't even have the 7 or 8...pvr stuff...in it.
i'm not sure if i'm being hosed or if this is what happens when its new and i need to stream it? the card is rom102rev108, weird from d*sh, but the software version is p088, thats virgin, isn't it? did a search and this software version is not in any threads here. shouldn't the dvr be active and available on the main menu? what do i have to do to get this to work?

The dvr needs to be streamed. And Obviously make sure you have a blocker on your card before you stream.

Yep, Hacker is correct, the DVR functions are not available with the virgin firmware. However, I would consider what is going to be done with the 501 before you update the firmware. Are you going to run public numbers, private numbers, use GenDT08, or even switch to BEV? If you are going to change the IRD# and BKs for any reason, I would do it now with the virgin firmware which will then marry the HDD to the receiver all in one step.
