Hi Guys
I have a ird pvr 501 the fan was working ok from time to time, but now it doesn't
run any more only if I unplug the ird and plug it back it will run for a few second
then it will stop. Is this normal? or should I change the fan to be on the safe side?
Thanks
And Happy New Year to all!!!!

Some one messaged me with this Fix. Thought I would share it.
"what you need to do is.. take off the hard-drive unit first. then locate where the FAN is plugged into. there are 2 cables that run from the fan into a 2-pin socket that plugs into the board. One cable is RED, which carries the power and the other is RED/BLACK.. which is the ground. Now, to do the mod.. all you have to do is create a PERMANENT ground at ALL times. so, snip the RED/BLACK cable from the socket and attach it to the closest screw on the fan. basically you are connecting that cable to the case, which in turn is providing the ground."
1) snip the RED/BLACK cable from the socket
2) screw it to the closet FAN screw
This will keep the fan running at ALL times. Good luck.
.My IRD is much more cooler now than it was before, so over heating shouldnt be much of an issue for me anymore. Plus the max chip or connextant chip well be a little bit cooler. Thinking about doing a mod on that as well, i'll see how the fan mod works out first lol.

ok just for some of you that notice, the fan turns it self on and off as it is needed to cool the unit down, also helps to prolong the fan life.but you can do what you want to anything as well do at times...
To my experience, you can't keep these things too cool. I have lost more than one PVR to tuner chip failure due to heat. I even put an extra external fan on one of mine. :)
