My mom lives 330 miles away and I'm not able to run to her side to tune up her computer. I'm looking some advice on any GOOD programs to eliminate spyware and a GOOD program that she can just click a few buttons and the program with tune up her system. They can not be to detailed cause she'll never understand how to run them. The tune up program is what is needed the most. she uses spybot now as a spyware remover and thats does pretty good. Any help would be great.

Free antispyware.

hxxp://www.superantispyware.com/ (http://www.superantispyware.com/)
Works better than most packaged software,
and
for anti virus

these are hands off products that up date them selves and scan on there own. Just be sure to uninstall any other simular products since most of the programs do not play nice with others.

If you have Xp also, no need for her to be computer literate. Use Remote Assistance. You will be able to see her computer screen and control her computer.

To use Remote Assistance: Have her.

click "Help and Support"

then "Invite a friend to connect to your computer with Remote assistance"

then "Invite someone to help you"

then "Save invitation as a file (advanced)

Enter "(your name)

leave default timeset for 1 hour or change to more time.

click "continue"

type in any password then confirm password

click "save invitation" (I always save to desktop so I can find it)

NOW JUST OPEN ANY MAIL PROGRAM AND HAVE HER SEND THIS FILE TO YOU.

When you get this email just open it up and type in the password that she typed in.

She will get a message on her computer that you would like to connect to her computer. Have her click yes.

Then you click "take control"

She will get a request that you want to take contol. Have her click yes.

NOW YOU HAVE CONTROL OF HER COMPUTER! TELL HER SHE CAN DISCONNECT ANY TIME BY CLICKING "ESC"

My mom is computer illiterate. I do this all the time with her. Works great. It is just like you have her computer right in front of you.

These are all good programs. Ive been looking online and thinking of maybe system mechanic 7 or tune up utilities.

12 ghosts popup blocker, auto
lavasoft 'adaware personal', click scan that's it
i use 'tune up utility', once the easy install is done there's a 'one click maintenance' icon goes on your desktop, optimizes everything from there automatically.
all three are available at download.com, the first two are free.

I'll look into 'tune up utility' but as long as she runs spybot once aweek there is no popups. I think popups come from spyware.
