Why does it take so long to write eeprom? Its hit and miss. Sometimes it will program fast and other times it just frezzes up? Can anyone explain if I am doing something wrong

I know of this. I have found, for me anyways, that it has to do with the computer itself.
I had to make sure nothing was running in the background. I had to turnoff my anti-virus, anti-spyware, no browser windows open, just jeepers.
I made sure of course that the connections were secure and tight, and I erased my flash/atmega a couple of times for good measure.
Then, I make sure my settings (box keys, dish 500 setup etc.) is right. Then I click on full write or full monty.
That usually works.
For some reason, if there's not a sufficient amount of RAM, or CPU availability, Jeepers will freeze.

Clean card contacts with alcohol. Poor contacts may give this symptom.

I thought this was an Asus/AMD issue. All my computers do this whenever I reboot them. 20 tries to write an atmega, then all good till next reboot.
