Question for skinerd

I'm not having much luck with one of my 501's. The 40gb HD up and died. Been trying to install a maxtor 120gb but keep getting error 0459 with several software versions of P079/P080 and I get error 0457 with versions P085/P087. My other good 501 programs right up with no problems. I then copied U6, U7, and eeprom from good 501 to bad 501 and switched the good 40gb HD to the bad 501 and still get error 0457. Push "ok" on error and the 501 works fine, but with no pvr functions. Switched out IDE and power cables too.

Asic chip bad ??? Cost wise, worth fixing?

make sure the maxtor 120 is the hd from one of the compatable list. i dont have link but you should be able to find it in here. Then use maxtor utilities from maxtor website to zero out the drive. You can zero it out quick instead of slow, really slow, take all night long.
After all that, flash virgin firmware to ird then it should take it. i did it too many times with my 508, but should be the same for 510. wish you luck.

P.S dont swap out the cable, very rare, almost impossible the cable went bad.

Thanks tv2k. But I'm I'm farther along in the test than my post indicates. I know skinerd has soldering skills, and was wondering if he replaced any controller chips. The controller chip is out on this 501.
