flash edit turns 510 into 501. Is there a software that will change box keys and ird# and still be a 510 image
The firmware for 501/508/510 is the same except for where the ird# and Boxkeys are located in the tsop. The only thing that dictates what PVR it is would be the size of the hard drive. It's nothing to worry about. Your 510 didn't get turned into a 501.

the menu and the guide are different
Yes. Did you change the software revision of the IRD? When the provider releases software updates that are downloaded by the IRD, the menus do change with new "features" What software rev are you at? You can find this on the menu selections 6,1,3 system information.
Also, you can change the way the guide looks. It is a setting in the menu also.
You might just need to let the ird software revision update to get the latest version and features.
Hope this helps

Flashedit will always detect your 510 as a 501.. I just think thats the default??
Anyways, FFFFFFFFF should be your boxkeys and ird number as a 501.. Scroll
down to 510 moved IRD info and your boxkeys and ird number should
be there..
If you use a virgin 501 image to marry your harddrive or whatever, it will
come up as a 501.. Jus FF out the info.. Then scroll down to 510 moved
IRD info and fill in your BKs and IRD number.. Then when you make
your personnal dump and virgin eeprom, Flash edit will write your
info to 3FFF40 for a 510.. First 4 Bytes are your IRD in hex.. Then
the next 8 bytes are your BKs, followed by 2 bytes of your checksum..
3FFFC0 needs to be all FFs, or it will not work.. Since this is 501, and
Flashedit will use this line so your bootstrap will never boot resulting
in no green light....
I hope this make sence.....

WOH!!! Makes perfect sense to me Mopar611. I don't remember ever having to FFFF out 3FFFC0 manually. I just assumed flashedit did it automatically when you choose 510 moved IRD info.
GREAT post.. Thanks bud.

If your tsop image is from a 510, it should already be there.. But I have
noticed most the tsops I have found are from 501s.. And since everyone
knows they are the same, they try to use them as the same.. But they
are different by where the bootstrap looks for startup..
Download a 501 tsop and look at it.. Scroll down to moved ird info and
change your bks and ird numbers to yours and save it.. I bet you when
you look in flashedit, under 501, your info is there.. That is wrong.. Needs
to be ffd out or jkeys will automatically write the 501 info and no
light will result..
