Just wondering if anyone else has had a problem like this. My 4900 was just black when we turned it on today. No Nag messages, can't get to system info to check location ID, Unit just sits there non responsive with the green light on. I checked my card and it's ok. I'm not an eltronic guy so I don't really know where to start. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Feel the case, any warm stops in it (like it is working)
.
unplug it form a minute
plug it back in, put you card in it.
see if you can turn it off and on whit the remote.
And see if the other button work try menu & sys info.
.

If the case is warm. over the transformers
and it won';t starter up
and the remote won't work
.
you need to get a flash repaired, load up you back-up flash and it will work again.

Thanks Jack, I'll try that as it quite possible that is the case. We just got a new DVD recorder for x-mas and inside the stand does seem a little warmer now. Now I have to go borrow mt J-Tag back. Thanks again, as always you verry helpful.

It stay on all the time
make sure you have a ventilating room for it
or it will keep screwing up

I noticed that my 4900 last night was asking to do a firmware update. I of course said no. Did yours take the new update? Just curious.

I'm using public boxkey and IRD numbers, I accepted the upgrade, and I'm still watching teevee. I'm pretty sure that the upgrade is impotant if you want to watch teevee in the foreseeable future.

TLK

I Finally got a chance to sit down and play with a j-tag today and am back up and running, with the new update I might add. Anyway, thanks to all, especially Jack who was very helpful as always. I apreciate it.

Got it going with realativley no frustration factor except that j-keys can be a ingnorant little program once in while. Anyway thanks again ALL.

Keep a back-up of the flash in case you need it again
4900 can be a problem withe the flash.

Thanks Jack, Already done and like all important didgital data it exists in more than on location. LOL

As far as 4900's go I must be lucky cause this is the first problem I have had in more than 2 years.

I have one, I love the 5.1 sound
.
1. It cash doing a up-date, it took me 33 flash to get it working again.
.
2. it has never taken and update
.

I just can't believe that you went through 33 flashes Jack. I can do a 4900 in 10 minutes. :D

IT just would not work
it was convert from a BEV
it cashed on an up-date
Everybody was telling to heat something, of take something apart
I got it working with a flash..... eventually
I changed to the cemu in 10 minutes
I ran in 2 years, without it taking a up-date, and it was open to be up-dated
.
A lot of people have trouble with them.
( oh I did have 2 - 301.10 and 2800 to play with then)

Really! :D I don't. I had a little touble with a 3900 though. I went through 3 flashes before I got check switch to work. Updates are inportant. You need the current firmware for those to work right.
