this is from dvbn, i don't understand but perhaps someone with knowhow can explain better, i think with some kind of filters and plug ins, they can get preview channels from directv here is what it say

"For any TSReader owners that are bored and want to play with something this weekend, I've posted the first public build of DSS-to-DVB here.

DSS-to-DVB is a plugin for TSReader that converts audio, video, and data from DIRECTV and DIRECTV Latin America into a DVB transport stream. Many of the requirements are the same as for the "old" DSSCR application, except this plugin doesn't work with TSReader Lite. The full requirements are listed in the readme file.

Some key features of this plugin are:
- Conversion of MPEG-1 audio, MPEG-2 video, and AC-3 audio into MPEG-2 TS packets.
- Conversion of DSS timing data and generation of additional timing data to provide A/V sync and proper PTS, DTS, and PCR values.
- Generation of all major DVB system information (except for the CAT since post-conversion decryption is impossible). This includes channel and program data used in TSReader's EPG display.
- Subscription support when used with the included CAM interface application (dsscrcam.exe), a subscribed access card, and a compatible smart card reader.
- Other features listed in the readme file.

To avoid confusion, I will state now that this does NOT provide "free TV". If a channel is unencrypted, such as Channel 100 on DIRECTV, then it will show up green in TSReader's PID chart and will play back perfectly in VLC. If a channel is encrypted and you aren't subscribed to it then it will show up as red and will not play in TSReader. If you are subscribed to an encrypted channel, it will show up as green and should play in VLC.

Since this is an early beta, there are still a few of things not working quite right. Please refer to the readme file if you're interested in learning about them. Of course, if you find bugs please report them .

Hopefully a few people will be able test this out and let me know if it works alright for them. Rod (TSReader) made some changes to TSReader recently to help make the DSS-to-DVB plugin work as well as it does, so I'm sure he wouldn't mind getting some feedback either. If you have TSReader Professional, you'll find that he has added support for closed caption and XDS data support in DIRECTV's video which is very cool.

Happy testing!

Greg"

and "Genpix,

I do not see any DSS option for Modulation with this driver. How do I make sure it is set for DSS? Is it DVB-S2??

Edit: The answer is DVB-S2. I also realized I had an older version of TSReader installed. WIth the newest full version, this plugin works perfectly! I see all the DirectTV EPG, and am able to watch channel 201 on 101W perfectly! In sync, and rock stable using TSReader and VLC.

Nice job!!"

It's a work in progress, but, well worth following for it's future development.
