4.0 works great with no freezing on my 501 converted to 510 and 301.10.

Why don't you try it out? Doesn't anybody like testing anymore? :)

Do you just load 4.0 right over 3.7, or do you need to erase something and then load 4.0?

What is the general consensus with the new Enigma? I also have a 3900 and a 301, and was wondering the best way to get back into testing?

What would anyone recommend for purchasing? Thanks!

It depends on your degree of patience and your gambling spirit. Most testing devices are not Plug n Play. They are more like Fart Around Til It Works. The Enigma has plenty of potential, but it has flaws as well at this time. Tier editing is a problem, bootup often gives the user 019 errors, and there are still occasional freezes. Older receivers seem to perform better than newer ones in terms of freezing. The 3900 does really well with virtually no freezing at this time (version 4.1).

Its a gamble, because no one really knows about the quality of the support in the future. The designers make a number of claims that may or may not pan out. Let the buyer beware.

I would have to say the enigma thus far is very good(as far as 3900 and 4.0 is concerned) been running flawless so far. As far as it being easy, I would have to say on a scale of 1-10(10 being most difficult) it's about a 4. The only thing I have tested before this has been avr-x and dave(football) both very simple. I asked a lot of questions on here and got a lot of help and now I've got TV. I'd say overall it's an excellent value(imho) hope this helps
