301 Newby Questions and Help

Greetings and hello,

HELP!!!..

I have done some very basic stuff in Europe&UK using ATMEL/FUN cards, MKFind 4 for Mediagaurd/SECA, some early SKY, but never had much success after the demise of the SKY rev 4s.

Thankfully I shipped over most of my gear and my trusty old ISO dual clock progger (3.5/6.0Mhz) with me, after buying a new 120v PSU for her, she now runs like a goodun mate..., which brings me to my main reason for the post... a few questions, first some background.

The rental property we moved to has dishnetwork setup without IRDs, but last weekend at our welcome BBQ (I love the US) the neighbour gave me 2X– DP 301 IRD-boxes, both with yellow cards in slots.

Question 1
I managed to read the cards using WinExplorer 5 and found them to be ROM102 Rev 10b Now either I’m getting confused (its the beer at HOOTERS) or I’m missing something.

I noticed everyone is talking about the ROM102 Rev 108, so can someone tell me, is ROM102 rev 10B a slang reference to a ROM102 rev 108?

Or is a ROM102 rev 10b just an old version on these cards, according to the neighbour the boxes were all working up until the Spring of last year when they moved to cable…

Question 2
If the cards are already married to the boxes, in theory all I need do is unlock them using my new shiny Nexus (Just ordered) Unlocker and enter some new valid keys for the month, should I script in a blocker… ?? if so, any recomendations?

Question 2a
Am I correct in my assumptions the only reason we would want to read the CAM-TSOP is to gain the IRD serial number and box number etc, to enable the marry aspect for the card programming? (Like SKY)

Question 3
Is there any software available to populate the PPUA for auto updates, or is not possible on these ROMs

Question 4
What is a personal blocker, is it possible to write this from info on this site?

Okay, first, study this site. You will be able to learn all that you need. The rom card is a 102. All revs are still rom 102. a virgin is at rev 103. If the card has been in the stream resently and that is the reason for the rev 10B. there are almost all revs from 103 to 109 and also 10B. They are the factory stream "locks" that Dish put on them. like with romcode, they use a rev 10A. Good luck

You are absolutely correct thedutydoctor. Your cards are married to the receivers so the only thing you'll have to do is to unlock your cards (rev10B are hard to unlock) when you get your unlocker, update tiers and put a blocker. There are pblic blockers available (search file section) or you can purchase private blocker (like romcode). Look in the "ROM102 programming link" above for the detailed instructions.

10B have high loop rate, it is gonna be a disadvantage to you that you have not worked with other revs first to learn about unlocking. But have fun. and remember, Free tv is expensive!

To be honest, I’ve had very little experience with unlocking, in the past in Europe it was just about pic processors like PIC16F84 and serial 24L16 or L32, generally the formats forScandinavian, French or German, Viaccess or Mediaguard, only recently has there been a need for the Atmel family of processors.

Looking forward to having some fun with the unlocker..

I have read some articles about the variable resistor on the unlooper being very sensitive, I’ll maybe modify this for better precision and add a 10 turn or 20 turn pot, haven’t tried to locate a file yet, I’ll maybe try this when the unlocker arrives, but thank you very much for the help and advice.

That is a great start, also the no loop diode schotky mod is also recommended, do a search you will find what you need to know how to do it
basically one end on 5v side of voltage regulator and other end to vcc of card slot. do the the search it has a banded end that must be on the right one of the two contact points and i can't remember what end it is off the top of my head

Guys,
my new white Nexus arrived last week and seems to be working fine,
I flashed it with ND13… and I started playing with the only 108 I had with the sat box.. switches 2+4

Unfortunately, I think I loaded a Unlocking script for a 109 by accident, left it running and went off to bed, on checking the next morning it appears to have maybe looped or killed the card, I no longer receive a valid ATR!! (he’s dead jim)

Does this mean it’s totally knackered?

Or is there any way to revive the card once its been looped, I’m presuming its looped..

how do I tell its looped or just DEAD?

I’m heart broken, does anyone have any ideas to what I can try next, I’ve used Nagramaster and Winexplorer, Nagramaster says “No Valid ATR” and winexplorer says “reset failed”

Oh well I suppose life has its ups and downs

Any info or ideas would be greatly appreciated…

It is looped. Put it aside for now. There is no unlooping script for rom102 yet.

Thanks dvdbllolines, found two actually... and using what looks like a german version, my german is not very good, but its now running, on one of the cards, I've placed the other in the freezer for a later pummeling with the script.

I have no clue on where to begin in hacking dish,,,,,, I had a neighbor move out and they left their sat and receiver in the trash with the card still in it......the receiver is a 3900. I don't see a serial port and I have no Idea where to begin.....Can someone PLEASE point me to the Extremly Dumbed down hoer's how you start guide?:D

White Nexus MODED with 1N5817 Schottky, tested and seems to read, untested with the glitch however (all dead cards)… anyway I pondered long and found another likely candidate for the slaughter!!:eek:

Using N2Edit it’s ATR’s back as a 101, and says its not supported… !!

I’ve done some reading and by the looks this is a local channels only card or what we called in Europe a “preview” has about half the serial memory of the 102.. (8kb)

Question is,

is it cannon fodder!!
or.....do I use it to practice on? God knows I need it!!

I read it’s possible to spoof the 101 ATR to a 102, but how on earth do you managed to squeeze all this into half the code space??

I need some help here, what’s the best option for this new 101

1) Practice makes perfect (use it to test the modified Nexus)
2) Keep it in the tool box and use it for scraping paint
3) Spoof it to 102

If I’m to glitch it, what do you recommend as the script??
