I recently was given a 3900 receiver with the jtag port and keys. I have never attempted to do a B3V or DSH system as I gave up the hobby when DTV went down the last time. Since I seem to have been given a bit of a push to start this again, I am hoping someone would point me in the right direction.
This receiver came with 2 ROM 2 (288-01) cards which I asume from the posts that I have read are out of date. Which ROM version should I be looking for (103, 104...) and what other hardware should I be seeking? Any suggestions for an ISO programmer?
Lastly, the jtag port on the receiver is a 25 pin female connection. Is this standard?
Thanks in advance.

Look to the left just above the top post, that yellow card with rom 102 programming below it. Start by readiing that, it'll give you a good idea of what you need to start.

Isn't it amazing what happens when someone shows you a picture? Thanks for the point in the right direction.

Emulation is a better way to approach your situation. Mili sells pre-built emu boards in his store, http://dssftp.com/xcart/product.php?productid=93 for only $59.00 shipped. Remember, you can't loop a emulation setup and it comes with AR..

Mili also sells 102 cards and other tools you need if you still decide to go this route. Good Luck The Link below will help you with programming a 102.

I remember doing an emulation setup with DAVE back when. Is it similar with DSH in that you need a PC running the emulation software close to the receiver? If so, what kind of PC will do (I have a few old PII, PIII and P4 hanging around) and how far away can it be? I have my house wired with CAT5 and have since gone wireless.

Thanks. Between the stickys and the how to's on the link I should have enough reading for a few hours and then maybe a few more questions. Based on what I have seen so far though, it looks like this receiver has a jtag cable built in. Possibly someone had installed it so that they would not have to make the connection manually. Has this been common?

You would have to modify the firmware for the IRD, that is why the jtag is there. The how to's should explain most of it to you. However, you could just start a new thread in the emu section if you decide to try this out. I think you will love it once you get the hang of it again. :D

At least this time I won't have the kids breathing down my neck if it goes down. I'll be doing this one in the comfort of my computer room and leaving them with their "normal" TV. Thanks again for the help.

HA, nope, hungover but not drunk!

well let me share my ignorance with your SB, I was chaning keys in the dish.bin file to test autoroll. I think that is why it wasn't working, or is that how you test it?

That is the way you would test it but it should roll the keys in 5 minutes. It sounds to me that you have the B1 cmd disabled if it won't roll..

It should look like this:

#Needed for key recognition
cmdforkeys B1

NOT LIKE THIS:
#Needed for key recognition
#cmdforkeys B1

OR THIS:
#Needed for key recognition
cmdforkeys 00

Check that in your cemu.ini file and let me know. BTW- I don't know if BEV will roll at all.

OK, so you have the B1 cmd for keys. Do you have these lines?

#b1sig used to filter B1 key command needed for morph processing..set according to current command signature
#b1sig86 B1
#b1sig96 B1

If you do and they do not look the same as above, you will not get AR.

Just remove those three lines, if you have them. They are not needed anymore.
