View Full Version : Found a 811 now what?
I found a 811 HD receiver to start off with from a friend of a friend. He said he used it for a while until he upgraded his old unit and it's just been sitting in a closet.
I know I need a programmer for it, but what else do I need to get it going after I pick it up?
He said he never had a card with it so do I need to buy a card?

It has an I-cam.. Which means its build in..
You need a programmer, passive interface card and glitcher..
I would NOT recommend this for you.. Not a very easy
receiver to get going...
But, there is kind of a HOW TO somewhere around here
if you feel like trying to do it..
You also need to know what rev the I-cam is at..
Good luck..

Read everything you can on the 311/811 receivers. There is a shitload of knowledge here and the 811 will be a 9 or 10 out of 10 on the hardness level for a newbie.
I suggest to get yourself a 301 and a 102 to start with and learn the ins and outs of the programming and setting the card up and then jump on the 811.
Ok I found a program and passive interface card, but what's a glitcher. Thanks for the tips on it not being easy, but since I have a pretty extensive IT background i'm willing to give it a go.
Once I get the box I'll try and figure out what ver the I-cam is at.

301 and 102 don't support HD so they are of no use to me.
The 811 has a rom102 Internal cam in it. If it's rev289 or higher your gonna have a tough time unlocking it. A glitcher is an unlooper/unlocker. Same device referred to with three different names. The reason the 311 was mentioned was because it has the same i-cam as the 311. 311 is very different from 301's.
I've suggested this to you before, but you really should have started out with a model 6000 for your first box if you must have HD. At least that way you'd be able to jtag the unit. If you screw up the cam on your 811 it's dead forever unless you mount a new i-cam in it or pay someone to do it for you. The 811 is one of the harder boxes out there for sure. You must have fairly good soldering skills to do this mod.
Ahh unlocker ok now I know what it is. Any specific model? I read the 311 html code on how to set it up and to be honest it looks pretty straight forward, but that doesn't mention how to fix misc problems. Probably with the 6000 is finding one. If a 6000 became available I would be trying that one out of course. You may find this hard to believe, but I learned how to solder at the age of 8 and trust me that was a LONNNNGGGGG time ago ;)
The 6000 is really expensive too.....so if you can do the 811, good for you. I wouldn't recomend it to most newbies to the hobby is all.
I like the white nexus unlocker the best. Even if the Powersync is a better unlocker, the nexus has a lot more support if for no other reason than more folks have them.
The 311/811 FAQ doesn't mention anything about an "unlocker" is that only used if it gets looped? Sorry most of the info on 811's didn't mention that as being a required part for some reason.
The how to's assume you've already unlocked your cam. (unlocked also means 'intercept installed') You must do this before you can program any cam that has been stream locked. Any cam that has been subbed is stream locked until you unlock it, no matter the rom or rev.
Great. Ok what do I need to "unlock" the thing. since it's been used i'm sure it's been locked. Hopefully I can get that added to the order with my programmer

Ha i have never seen the ICQ flower in someone's name. Good luck with it lght. you may need it a little help. Have we determined the the rev of the icam yet?
Ahh that's my ICQ. Been using it for at least 10 years!
thanks, i'm sure i'm going to need help, but only one way to learn! I haven't even picked up the unit so it may be a while before I start posting all the questions.
