I some max 232 chips, card sockets , crystals and misc parts , atmel2313s and atmega162 and a microcortroller programmer and a breadboard. Is there anything interesting I can build aside from the obvious iso card programmer ? Oh yea, got a yellow card , 510dvr with a jtag socket installed, digital lock, and external card socket connections , that i moded a few years ago and lost interest.

You mean the atmel 2313 takes the place place of the ird mpu ? surely not. you mean an interface for a pc based hack ?
Are you wanting to learn an asm language ?

The Max Mel board schematics look familiar and doable .
Glanced thru the stickys and didnt see the code for the 2313 .
My universal mcu programmer can wtite the code to the 2313 but is there a schem for the programmer thats usually used for this ?
Last question.
iIs there a good free atmel compiler available ?

the flashes for the atmel and program for your computers are readily available. Now to compile your own atmel code? hmmmm, i will have to look around

Heres a good one hxxp://http://www.mikroe.com/en/compilers/mikrobasic/avr/
Free version supports 2k of code.
Can do either asm or Mikrobasic AVR which is a structured high level lang.
Made by same peoople the make Mikrobasic compiler for PIC mcu, popular hobbiest mcu. Works good for pic no doubt good for avr too
Just noticed you said the pc emulates the rom functions. So then this isnt like dtv where the card held the was the hackable part ? Her we have to modify and emulate the rom ? What about the card ? How does that fit in with emulaton ?

If you are gonna run cemu, you want to flash the atmel with the 10bar.hex image. It's here and other places in the files section.

got it
will this work with any dish ird , specifically 510 ?
Also seems I read somewhere u can run cemu in the background and doesnt require a dedicatd pc. doesnt really matter- just wondering
One last question I swear, then I`ll pu the circuit toogether. How long thes cmu gererally stay up .?

looks like SJ covered it all. no one can state how long anyting will stay up unelss you have a sub. then i will state it will stay up as long as you pay the bill. You should know that from h and hu days. no gaurantee.

If you want totally freeze free TV, you want to run st19xl with an aux'd rom. However, Cemu rarely freezes, and it doesn't require the aux'd rom. I actually prefer cemu. Look for a file called 'cemu as a service' and that will set you up with what you need to run multiple instances of cemu on one machine at the same time while still being able to use the PC for normal stuff. The flash for the atmel (10bar.hex) is the same no matter the receiver EXCEPT in the case of a model 6000. The 6000 requires, or at least runs better, when you flash with the model 6000 specific flash. Use fbpr16 to flash. The 10bar.hex flash wont work with xpatmel.
