I don't know about this mpeg 4 that is being talked about, but i believe it might be a way of sending down the video to the receiver. Anyway, will our current receivers, i have a 508, 301, and a 2800 using romcode. My question is, will dish send down revision updates to make our receivers work with mpeg 4 video? Or do we have to buy new receivers? In the Dish ads, they are saying no equipment to buy, so i guess you lease it like cable. Does this mean if we can't use our current receivers with mpeg 4, how will we get receivers to modify if we can't buy them because dish leases all the equipment now? Will only HD channels be mpeg 4 or our all the channels switching to mpeg 4? Also i have a dish card that has no channel logos on it like the rom 102's and 103's. Is this the next card dish is going to? I see Mili has some for sale in his store. Was 79 dollars last time i looked. Should we be getting a few of these in case of a swap out of the 102's and 103's? Thanks for any help.

Mpeg4 is a newer way video is compressed more efficiently and uses different circuitry, so old receivers will not be able to pick up mpeg4. I believe that for now only new HD channels will be mpeg4. All of the regular (SD) channels will have to stay mpeg2 otherwise everyone's receivers would become obsolete. So as new HD channels are added (and there are already some in mpeg4), we won't be able to see them.

Enigma Cards may be the way to go

Smilingjack, I suppose Mili will have mpeg 4 receivers for us to buy when we need them? This enigma card you talk about being the way to go. Can you explain a little more about this and why you believe this is the way to go? I know nothing about these, as i am using rom 102's with romcode. Thanks.

All channels will go to MPEG4 (it will be a little while)

I don't know about the suppley of MPEG4,

This enigma card dosen't loop, Dish & BEV are trying to get rid of the 102 / 103

I would keep my eye out for HD recivers that have MPEG4 --- are are hached to work with a card.

why buy the Enigma card, when you can buy 3 or 4 atmega cards for the same price, and you can't loop them either. Sounds like a sales pitch to me Smilingjack.

Well, the Enigmas come "naturally" with the Jtag adapters. Also who will support the Atmegas in the future?
