I just got a brand new psp, but it has the 3.40 firmware on it:rolleyes:. I read this can't be downgraded at this time but I saw on xbox-modchips.com they have a mod chip for the psp called UNDILUTED PLATINUM. I am guessing this chip will allow me to run homebrew games on my psp with the latest firmware on it? If thats how it works then I would have to send my psp to them to mod it for me because I can't solder. The total cost to send my psp out is USD $198.57:mad:. So my other question is, is there anybody here that is good at soldering and could mod my psp for less than USD $198.57?
Thanks,
hacker

wait a minute, I will check with Dark_Alex, he has made several downgraders.. The modchip is pointless, unless they create an actual custom firmware that is say more XBMC like.

I guess i am crazy. I thought they were all the way up to 3.5 already. Dark_Alex has taken time outta making his OE firmwares and DownGraders to work on the Undiluted Platinum and the other modchip that still hasn't been released (or JTAG Adpater for the PSP). I would watch this thread, and this site even for PSP stuff. They stay pretty well right on top of it.

The Modchip is just a Flash for the PSP, I think the same chip it is using on the board. The Modchip just allows you to flash it anytime with anything, and eventually there was supposed to be a completely new custom firmware for the PSP. Thats the Undiluted Platinum.
The other chip, which isn't available yet, is not a modchip. The makers are really trying to stress that this new chip is a Jtag Adapter. whatever.
Right now, Dark_Alex and team are working on software that is compatible with the Undiluted Platinum, and the JTag Adapter. there is speculation that Dark_Alex has been tapped to write a whole new firmware for the UD chip.
The Firmwares that have been customized (Most by Dark_Alex..) and allow playing of ANY PBP's, ISO's, and I think ANY video in MP4 format without using ridiculous naming of files.
Right now the only thing that you can do with a modchip is Flash custom Firmware to it, and the same with the PSP itself. Modchips I think were gonna give devs more freedom to try new things, then there would be thousands of custom firmwwares......etc etc. Kinda didn't happen.
So I would trade it, or wait for a downgrader. I would say wait a week or two and see. Dark_Alex has been tied up with the software flasher for the two chips. Now he is supposedly freed up and maybe something new will emerge.
or trade it, or sell it on ebay.

Yeah, PSP modchips are something you install under a 60x microscope with a needle-tip iron. They are not for even the experienced solder installer to do...
you are soldering to like 5 adjacent traces that cover maybe 2 mm of the mainboard. screw them up (burn them, cut them, score them too deep, etc) and you ruin the NAND chip connections, and good luck with your brick.
Go find a 3.03 firmware PSP and an old copy of Gran Theft Auto Librity Cities with firmware 2.00 update on it. The ONLY reason to EVER install a chip is for recovery, and unless you have very precise equipment and huge amount of experience..
Latest I heard was hole up to 3.30, nothing for 3.40 or 3.50.. could be a while to get the downgrader for these higher revisions. As more revisions are released previous holes are patched. In some cases more holes are created, but sony is getting better.

It works great. You can download full games onto your memory card or play home brew games. Go to psp-hacks.com and read up on what firmwares are downgradeable. I'm not sure what can be downgraded now, since my fucking psp broke a while ago (I just have realy bad luck:rolleyes:) so I don't know whats going on with psp hacking now.

Firmware in latest PSP are unhacked.
If you dont have it yet, i would sugest picking up a refurbished Fat or slim PSP rather than a new 3000 series one.
Fat or slim can be hacked using a downgrader and a modified battery .. Latest 3000 series have not been hacked.
Google PSP hacks, and start reading ..

Except all new retail box`s of TA088v3.
They are close, but could still be several months before Pandora will work.
