I have a neighbor who is moving at the end of the month out-of-state. He is offering his new-in-box, never activated VIP 211 to me for $100 cash. If I purchase it, it would be a closet stuffer in hopes that a MPEG-4 ROM 206 hack will be on the way in the hopefully not-too-distant future. On the other hand, it could turn into a $100 boondoggle, with no future testing value at all. I suppose that I could resell it eventually on eBay, as the VIP 211 routinely sells there for more than $100 (at least it does at this time).
What do you think? Would YOU buy it for $100? Why or why not?

Sure why not?

Sure why not?
Because of it potentially becoming a $100 sinkhole.

Or it could be a $500.00 Bonanza. I'd take the chance you can allways sub it.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, too. Alright, I'll buy yet another closet stuffer!

if it was ex sub i would say yes. but now you are gonna need info from receiver too. since they are not married. I do not know what kind of progress is being made on the receiver dumps.

I'm not holding my breath waiting for the jtag adapter to work on the VIP IRDs. I'd be amazed if it worked on the 811s, since the TSOP of the 811 is encrypted.

C&P from their site here is what da man say ??
My efforts are now devoted to the 322/522/625/Vip211/Vip622, the latter with MPEG4 capability. These IRDs use the same family of chips from Broadcom, namely the BCM70xx or BCM73xx.
As some of you already know, these chips are jtaggable and have been dumped via the uart, but the dumps are encrypted. Fortunately, the jtag adapter does not rely on flash dumps to do its job, but rather, on access to RAM which is not encrypted.

Do you know if that Enigma jtag adapter will work for plastic testers?

For some reason, the site won't let me register. Something about the NoSPAM code is wrong, but I swear that I type it in correctly every time.
