View Full Version : B*v Swapout Confirmed!
Friend of mine called last night, and asked me about a B*v 3100 with card. Wanted to know if he can do something with it (S0x card)?
Told him that the ird was OK and don't toss the plastic yet BUT reports of a swap out and where did he get this?
Was over at a friend's place for a BBQ, the guy gave it to him....dug deeper and here's the story.
This fellow moved and B*v guy came over last week and installed a new dish and ird, he offered the old 3100 and was told 'nope, you can keep it' and left.
My friend looked at the new ird and couldn't find a card and mentioned that the new receiver is alot smaller.
Cardless and no doubt 206 based. So this is no longer a rumour the swap is on and not saying that it will happen overnight but it's the beginning of the end.
PS NO, he doesn't have an HD TV....in case you were wondering, as I asked
that.
PPS this notebook keyboard is driving me crazy....only use it when on the
road forgive typos or weird insertions.
These small IRDs are the 4100 no? They have been there for 2-3 years now.
LOL!!! :D
Yea the cardswap has been going on for about that long also. They are swapping all NEW installs with the latest and greatest and that is for all providers so there is nothing new other than the providers are slowly trying to replace the old stuff with newer stuff. At the rate they are going the end of the cardswap is getting close!!! Cardswap will Probably be complete by 2010 or so!!!
Charlie is going to rom206's too. If you buy new, that's what you get.

I don't think there is any specific swap out going on. They are not trading rom102's or S0x roms out per se. They are just putting rom206 in most, if not all their new boxes.
LOL!!! :D

That date sounds good to me! :-)
............but if you believe that, can I offer you a bridge in NYC, in good shape and the price is negotiable.
What disturbs me is that the installer didn't take the old IRD or at least the card, that's the Key to what is going on. They know the plastic is compromised yet HQ doesn't instruct them to remove it!
Perhaps, they figure let them test for another sixty to ninety days and we'll drive them crazy with ECMs, sort of like a Cat playing with a mouse....torture the shit out of it before the kill.
The new receiver was in an entertainment centre so he couldn't pull it out and get the mdl # off the back, plus there were other people around so he didn't want to attract any attention.
Someone mentioned that it's probably a 4100, and once again....this fellow doesn't have an HD TV, just a five year old RCA rear projection unit (ugh...).
OK, all new installs get this but they will probably do what my cellular provider did. My last statement gave a drop dead date of this past May, my old Nokia won't be supported as they are going GSM. All I have to do is call or drop into a reseller to pick up my NEW phone.
Only thing was the 'squint print' mentioned that now I'm automatically locked into a new 3 year Contract, believe me B*v will do the same thing and offer extra tiers or HD for three months free.
PS I purchased my new phone and have no locked in Contract ;-)
