Several questions on cemu

Hi all, I'm just returning to testing dish after a long break since back before nagra2. I used yvous back then. It's amazing what I have forgotten. I've read several threads from several sites and was cofused by the current softwares and flashes being used.I set up cemu the other day and it appears I have hardware right because when I placed avr in ird and powered ird data began scrolling on pc, but i got the smart card not valid for this receiver error. I was using cemu 1.9.4 and my avr was flashed with n2_102_10b_8515v2_1chip. I knew these may have been wrong but I was trying to get hardware setup right.
My questions are:
1)Am I on the right track?
2)What is the current cemu version I should be using? (cemu10b_ 1.3.9)
3)What should my avr be flashed with, n2_102_10b or ird2pc or other?
4)In cemu what should I use as my dish.bin? I'm thinking it has to be a 102 bin.Should it be a clean bin or what sort of edits need to be made such as IRD info or any patches.
5)all my bins are 3 years old, what are some public ones that work well?
6)If and when I get it running what edits to tiers and blackout strings can be made?
7)I flashed my tsop with the original and virgin eeprom made in flashedit like I used to years ago. Is this till how it's done or does cemu nedd it flashed with something else?

also a dish antenna question while I'm at it:
Years ago when i set up my dish 500 antenna I could get 119 and 110 from the same antenna without a seperate check switch, but now when I positioned it I only get 119. Has it changed to where I need a seperate check switch now or do I just need to adjust the positioning?
Help in any or all of these questions and beyond would be greatly appreciated.

1) Sounds like it.
2) You can use 1.3.9 or 1.94, both a current versions of cemu. 1.3.9 is better for older pc hardware from what I have read.
3)Not sure on the AVR flash, I use max/mel, but in one of the first(the first?) versions of cemu after dish implemented the map calls there are autoroll flashes meant for these versions of cemu. The Rom102 rev you want to report is 10b.
4) Cemu uses a rom10to102 dish bin. Its a rom10 eeprom that emulates a 102. This is where you are hitting the wall i think. N2 requires special keys to pair the card to the ird, not just ird# and boxkeys anymore. In the code tags below is something you can work from if you want to use private info. You'll need either legit exsub info, or i think you can still use GenDT08 to generate info. You'll also need a jtag to flash the correct info to the ird. This is really the meat of making cemu work. Public info was targeted in an ecm recently so I am not sure if thats still going on or not as I use private. Your best bet would be to get public stuff and get up and running, even if it is short lived. That way you know your setup works. Then read up on using private info.

6) MRTierworks 3 is what I use to make tiers, its easy to use. It generates a ep10 patch file that you would use nagraedit 4.1 to apply. You use nagraedit 4.1 to apply any rom10to102 patches, never use N2Edit, its meant for real rom102 cams.

As far as the dish goes... what ird are you running and is it a DishPro or Legacy dish antenna? DishPro IRD's(301,501, any newer ird, etc) will work with either dishpro or legacy. Legacy IRD's need Legacy LNB's or a converter to work with DishPro. I would say you are either out of alignment, or you have a sw21, or similar, switch that went bad

CEMU is tricky, especially if you have been out of the loop...

You can also try cardmaster too.. its much easier to setup and works the same but uses a true ROM102 image rather than a ROM10 image.

Yea that sounds like it would work. Just add some tiers to that patch posted above and hopefully you will get something. Just patch it to a clean rom 10 eeprom. I think thats what you meant but a rom10.bin and dish.bin are different. I think the dish.bin is an 8k file, the rom10.bin is larger.

Cardmaster no longer needs a 102. It will work standalone. I tried it in the past but didn't have much luck. But the same thing applies, you need a paired IRD and CAM, the thing that makes it a little easier is its a true 102 eeprom.

a good place to get all the files you need is hxxp://www.thefileshop.com , replace the xx with tt.

Oh, one other thing i forgot to mention about cemu.... you need to compile it yourself. The authors do not want anyone posting compiled executables. It easy to do once the environment is setup. At that site you should be able to get a DJGPP environment up and running quickly. The other option is Cygwin, a little harder.

That should work for setting up DJGPP

Compiling it after the environment is configured is just as simple as typing:
make clean
make djgpp=1
make compress

Then just copy the cemu.exe file created to the location of all the other files.

well the first time I compiled cemu 1.9.4, I ran it in dos just to see what errors I would get because I had read that the only things I had to change were zip,timezone and possibly com port. Each time I test ran cemu it would stop and say 'dishbin' or 'dish_alt_2bo.bin' cannot be found or something similar. so I looked in the cemu files and could not find a dish.bin or a dishbin or a dish_alt_2bo.bin file. I looked in the configuration settings and saw this:

my cemu files had a file called rom10.bin and I assumed this referred to it

then i would compile it again.
I would run that and it wouldn't work so I would just keep trying different cleaned and uncleaned .bin s as my dish.bin

Does that mean you do it differently if so please tell me what I'm misunderstanding because I want to do it the way it is supposed to be done to save myself confusion in the future. I believe I have the hardware, compiling down and I remember pretty well how to use the software utilities. The place I'm having problems is I'm getting confused by different bin files and what I have to edit them with and where they should be placed and named to get it to mesh together.

I also have a question about the ird but I want to get this part down first.

These are the same file. Not sure why this was introduced recently. Just make these changes, assuming you eeprom is named dish.bin:

dishbin dish.bin
#dishbin dish_alt_2bo.bin

This is the file that holds all your information, ird info, tiers, etc.. and it contains the patch I posted. Just patch that to a clean rom10 image(make sure to add some tiers first though), name it dish.bin. Then you should be set for your dish.bin for now.

The reason I say it should work is it sounds like thats what the instructions at the top of that patch are saying. I haven't used public info before, supposedly its just as simple as changing IRD# and Boxkey in the TSOP and using a public eeprom. I had a matched exsub TSOP and rom102. So for me I didn't modify my TSOP at all, I just took the public info, this part of the patch:

Did you load a virgin eeprom? Just changing the ird #s and box keys won't do it. Get you a working one out of the tsop bank here at milis to illiminate that as the issue. Somtimes the guide will go red after running a while or if you are overtaxing the computer if your running other stuff at the same time. If the guide isn't red at first and you got the current keys in your bin and in the 82 92 files with good tier dates its most likely your reciever isn't loaded correctly with the rsa keys and you need to load a working tsop to illiminate that as the issue. Also make sure you 2313 chip is flashed correclty with the up to date flash for a rom102 .

I've had that happen when my ird and cam are not matched up properly. Which really threw me because i thought I should get a Smartcard not authorized for this receiver message, but I got no errors just as you describe.

For the timezone I leave it set to 00 then set it in the cemu.conf, same with the zip code.

What model receiver do you have?

Thanks guys for all your help. I finally got it going. It turns out it was an ird problem. I did two things differently this time and am not sure which fixed it but the first- was that I had been using the original 3900 tsop at p230 with virgin eeprom all edited in flashedit with fake ird# and boxkeys . The change I made here was I decided to use a public 3900 tsop at p231 and edited the same way. The second thing I did different was I realized I was using an old flashedit without all the different .fs files, so the change was I got the more up to date one and applied the 3900new burn. Well thanks again. Now I'm going to test plastic on another receiver.

glad to hear you got it going. If you want to try different emu software go get st19xl and auxshare. I have 2 ird's running st19xl and auxshare for the maps on a single pc with no problems. can't have too many options.
